1. What is OneDrive in your environment?

 

OneDrive is a cloud-based file hosting and sharing service provided by Microsoft. It is designed for businesses and organizations to store, sync, and share files securely within their network.

 

2. Why is it essential to perform regular backups of OneDrive?

 

Performing regular backups of Onedrive for Business  is crucial to ensure data  loss protection ,recovery from Ransomware attacks  and disaster recovery. Backups help safeguard against accidental deletions, data corruption, cyberattacks, and other potential issues resulting in data loss. 


 

3. What data and components does Druva backup from OneDrive ?

 

Druva inSync backups  all files and folders and associated metadata except  created by, createddatetime, modified by, and modified date time. stored in OneDrive. It provides comprehensive protection for OneDrive  data to ensure recoverability.

4. Can you explain the backup workflow for OneDrive?

 

The backup workflow for OneDrive in Druva inSync involves the following steps:

 

1. Create a SaaSApps profile and enable OneDrive for backup

2. Identification and selection of OneDrive entities for backup.

3.  Map users to the profile

4. Schedule or manually run the backup

5. Availability of backup data for restore operations as per retention policies.






 

5. What are the prerequisites before configuring Druva for OneDrive backups?

 

Before configuring Druva for OneDrive backups, ensure the following prerequisites:

  1. A valid subscription to Druva inSync and appropriate licensing for OneDrive.

  2. Supported Microsoft 365 Edition

  3. An account with  Global Administrator privileges for initial configuration.

  4. Cloud Key Management to store the encryption key.

  5. Configure a profile to protect OneDrive data.

  6. Associate and add users to Microsoft 365-enabled SaaS Apps profile



 

6. What steps are involved in configuring the Druva for OneDrive backups?

 

The activation process for the Druva client in OneDrive backups involves the following steps:

  1. Log in to the Druva inSync console.

  2. Navigate to the OneDrive backup configuration section.

  3. Register M365 tenant and Select the preferred app

  4. Verify the connection and provide the required permissions

  5. Provision the user-preferred user deployment method

  6. Configure for backup

7. How do I configure backup settings for OneDrive in Druva?

 

You can configure backup for OneDrive in two ways: Quick Configure and Auto Configure.

 

  • Quick Configure

    1. Enter the username or email address of the users to be backed up in the Users to the Backup field.

    2. Available users will start showing up while you type. You can select multiple users from the user list.

    3. Select the storage where the users' data should be saved from the Assign storage drop-down list.

    4. Select a profile from the Assign Profile drop-down list.

    5. Click Save

 

  • Auto Configure

    1. This option enables you to automatically configure users' backup by mapping Azure AD attributes to storage and profile. You can filter users by using Groups, Azure AD attribute, or you can import all users, and then you can assign storage and profile to the users




 

8. How do I run a backup for OneDrive using Druva?

 

Backup can be initiated manually or automatically

 

  1. Go to the Druva dashboard and click on the "Microsoft 365" tab.

  2. Click on the "OneDrive".

  3. Select the users that you want to backup.

  4. Click on the "Backup Now" button.

  5. Druva will start backing up the selected user.


 

9. How do I restore a backup for OneDrive using Druva?

 

You can restore

  • The most recent backup

  • A backup from a specific date


 

Destinations You Can Restore To

  • To the same user's account from where the data was backed up.

  • User's desktop or to a custom location on the user's device. If the user has multiple devices, you can choose the device on which you want to restore the OneDrive data.

  • Different user's account.



 

 


 

10. Based on your experience, what are the most common issues encountered when dealing with OneDrive backups?

 

While each environment may have unique challenges, some common issues encountered with OneDrive backups include;

 

  1. API throttling and cloud integration issue

  2. Insufficient permissions to backup web files 

  3. The backup failed due to wrong credentials issue

  4. Common Microsoft 365 errors.

  5. InSync unable to access the tenant 






 

11. What are the items in OneDrive not protected by Druva?

 

OneDrive backups will exclude all files from the recycle bin folder path

 

12. What are the best practices when protecting the OneDrive with the Druva backup solution?

 

  1. Configure backup frequency: Ensure that you have set up an appropriate backup frequency for OneDrive to ensure regular data protection. 

 

  1. Review backup configuration settings: Review and verify the backup configuration settings in Druva Backup for OneDrive to ensure they align with your organization's requirements. Overlooking backup configuration settings may result in incomplete or incorrect backups.


 

  1. Set proper retention policies: Set proper retention policies for OneDrive backups to comply with your organization's data retention requirements. Ignoring retention policies may lead to excessive storage consumption or retention of unnecessary data.
