How to back up and restore Microsoft Edge browser favorites or bookmarks using Druva inSync

Overview

By default, inSync Client backs up the Microsoft Edge browser favorites and bookmarks through Persona backup. However, the persona data can only be restored when performing a “device replacement”. You can back up the default folder where the Microsoft Edge browser stores the favorites and bookmarks by using Druva inSync.

Microsoft Edge Bookmarks are stored in a file named Bookmarks (with no extension) in the data directory. 

Default folder location - %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default

Backup procedure

Perform the following steps to backup your favorites and bookmarks in Microsoft Edge -

1. Go to Profiles on the inSync admin console

2. Click on the required profile 

3. On the top right corner, click on Edit > Endpoints

4. Select either Windows / Mac as per the requirements 

5. The profile and click on the "+Add Folder" option -

6. Backup Location - %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default

7. Display Name - Edge Bookmarks or Edge Browser favorites

8. Folders to be backed up - All Folders

. Include Files

Select Include Files = Blank; 

Select File Extensions = bookmarks;bookmarks.*

Select Exclude Files = Blank

2. Check inSync client and trigger a backup. 

Restore procedure

Perform the following steps to restore Microsoft Edge browser favorites.

1. Use inSync Client to restore the entire folder to an alternative location on the device.

2. Use Task Manager to ensure that no Microsoft Edge processes are running in the background.

3. Copy the restored folder from the alternative location over a folder in local app data. Replace the existing folder.

4. Restart Microsoft Edge to complete the process.

5. Your Microsoft Edge browser favorites are restored.
