Cloud Apps Configuration update for MSP Customer Administrators

Overview

This article describes the change in the Managed Service Provider (MSP) customer administrator's Cloud Apps configuration workflow with the inSync Cloud Update released on July 14, 2018.

With this Cloud Update, the Druva Cloud Platform (DCP) Console is available to all the inSync customers who are directly managed by Druva. DCP integration with inSync and Phoenix services has changed the login and administration experience for all administrators. This has also impacted the experience of MSP managed customer administrators in managing their Cloud Apps.

Login Workflow changes

Before July 14, 2018, the following URLs were used to log on to the inSync Management Console:

  • https://cloud.druva.com - URL used by Druva managed inSync customers to access the inSync Management Console.
  • https://<msp customer name>.druva.com - Co-branded URL used by the MSP customer administrators to access the inSync Management Console.

Post the Cloud Update on July 14, 2018, the URL https://cloud.druva.com is automatically redirected to the new URL - https://login.druva.com, which is the DCP Console login page.

Existing, as well as new inSync customers directly managed by Druva are displayed the enhanced login page that either redirects them to the inSync Management Console for the existing customers or to the DCP Console for new customers for whom the DCP experience is enabled.

However, as the DCP Console is not being made available to the MSPs, the MSP customer administrators can continue to use the co-branded login URL (https://<msp customer name>.druva.com) to access the inSync Management Console. 

Cloud Apps Configuration Workflow changes

Existing Workflow for MSP Customer Administrators

Before July 14, 2018, MSP customer administrators who wanted to configure Cloud Apps for backup, were instructed to use the https://cloud.druva.com URL to log on to the inSync Management Console and integrate the Cloud Apps.

This was a workaround for MSP customer administrators as configuring Cloud Apps was not possible by logging on to inSync Management Console using the co-branded URL, that is https://<msp customer name>.druva.com. The reason being, inSync is configured to redirect back to https://cloud.druva.com/admin and requires an active login session to be available while integrating a Cloud App with inSync.

Sample Procedure

To configure a Cloud App account using the existing workflow, an MSP customer administrator performs the following steps:

  1. Type https://cloud.druva.com URL in the browser address bar and log on to the inSync Management Console.
  2. On the inSync Management Console menu bar, click Data Sources > Microsoft 365 cloud app, and then click Configure.
  3. On the log on page that appears, enter the tenant administrator's username and password for Microsoft 365, and then click Sign in.
  4. On the next page that appears, click Accept to grant inSync app the required permissions to access the Microsoft 365 data.

  5. inSync connects to the Microsoft 365 administrator account and can access data of all the users who are associated with the Microsoft 365 administrator account.
  6. (Optional) After the configuration is complete, MSP customer administrator is redirected back to inSync and can see the Verify Configuration dialog. In the dialog, select a user from the organization to verify the inSync integration with Microsoft 365.
  7. Provide an email address in the Select a user field.
    User Principal Name (UPN) is not supported at the moment.
  8. After the cloud app is configured, the MSP customer administrator can view the cloud app's configuration details on the Manage Cloud App Accounts page. For more information, see Manage Cloud App Accounts page.

New Workflow for MSP Customer Administrators

Post July 14, 2018, Cloud Update, the MSP customer administrators must use the following URL to log on to the inSync Management Console:

  • https://<msp customer name>.druva.com - Co-branded URL with the MSP customer name to access the inSync Management Console.
  • https://cloud.druva.com/admin/msp - To log on to the inSync Management Console for configuring and managing Cloud Apps.

The https://cloud.druva.com/admin/msp URL is a new workaround and hard-coded for MSP customer administrators who want to configure and manage Cloud Apps accounts. 

As the existing https://cloud.druva.com URL will automatically redirect to https://login.druva.com, MSP customer administrators will not be able to log in as the DCP Console cannot authenticate MSP customer administrator accounts.

On typing the new URL https://cloud.druva.com/admin/msp, inSync automatically renders the existing  https://cloud.druva.com login page. After the MSP customer administrators enter their credentials, inSync authenticates and authorizes the MSP customer administrators before redirecting them to the inSync Management Console page.

While configuring a Cloud App account using the new URL, inSync will redirect back to https://cloud.druva.com/admin, and if an active login session is available, the Cloud App configuration will be successful.

Sample Procedure

To configure a Cloud App account using the new workflow, an MSP customer administrator should perform the following steps:

  1. Type https://cloud.druva.com/admin/msp URL in the browser address bar and log on to the inSync Management Console.
  2. On the inSync Management Console menu bar, click Data Sources > Microsoft 365 cloud app, and then click Configure.
  3. On the logon page that appears, enter the tenant administrator's username and password for Microsoft 365, and then click Sign in.
  4. On the next page that appears, click Accept to grant inSync app the required permissions to access Microsoft 365 data.

Known Issues

With the introduction of the new workflow for MSP customer administrators to configure and manage Cloud App accounts, the following known issues are also identified:

Workaround

Type the https://cloud.druva.com/admin/msp URL again in the browser's address bar and press Enter to redirect to the existing  https://cloud.druva.com login page.
