Failed to create a snapshot - SSMCommandInvocation - ExecutionTimedOut

Problem description

Backup fails with the following error:

3 2 aws/monitor/consistentinstancesnapshot eu-west-2 SSMCommandInvocation Mar 26 09:26:17 Mar 26 10:30:23 14 ExecutionTimedOut

Cause

The instance has an issue with consistent snapshots or AWS command line interface (CLI) tool is not updated

Traceback

3 2 aws/monitor/consistentinstancesnapshot eu-west-2 SSMCommandInvocation Mar 26 09:26:17 Mar 26 10:30:23 14 ExecutionTimedOut

Resolution

  1. Check whether SSM service is installed and running

  2. Restart Amazon SSM service on the affected server.

  3. Check event viewer to find any logs associated with SSM

  4. Disable consistent snapshot option in CloudRanger’s backup policy.

Verification

Once you have disabled consistent snapshot option in CloudRanger’s backup policy the backup will complete.
