Overview

After starting the decommissioning process for a device, a user usually activates another device. However, if the same device is available, the user can also reactivate the same device.

Activate a New Laptop for the Same User Account

Before you begin

Before the user activates inSync, ensure the following:

  • The user is logged on to the device using the user’s own credentials.
  • The user has the inSync account credentials handy. If required, the user can contact the inSync Cloud administrator to reset the account password.
  • The user can activate inSync using the user’s inSync account credentials, single sign-on credentials, or Active Directory credentials. If required, the user can consult the inSync Cloud administrator about the credentials that the user must use to activate inSync.
  •  The user has the latest version of inSync Client installed on the device.

Procedure

To activate inSync

  1. Double-click the inSync system tray icon or desktop icon to open the inSync Client interface. The Activate Your inSync window appears.
  2.  Provide the appropriate information for each field.
    Field Description
Server URL Select the Use inSync Cloud check box.
Email Type the email address for your inSync account.
    Password

Type the password for your inSync account

Note: If your account credentials have been reset, you must type the new password that you received over email.

  3. Click Activate. inSync adds this device as a new device.

Note: If the user account credentials have been reset, the Reset inSync Password window appears. The user must set a new password, and then click Save.

Reactivate the Same Laptop for the Same User Account

Note: If you are reactivating a device while it is being decommissioned, most of the SMFT files will remain in the backup folders. This is the expected behavior and we recommend that you manually delete these files before the next inSync backup operation.

Before you begin

Before the user reactivates inSync, ensure the following:

  • The user is logged on to the device using the user’s own credentials.
  • The user has the inSync account credentials handy. If required, the user can contact the inSync Cloud administrator to reset the account password.
  • The user can activate inSync using the user’s inSync account credentials, single sign-on credentials, or Active Directory credentials. If required, the user can consult the inSync Cloud administrator about the credentials that the user must use to activate inSync.
