How does inSync update the device location on the dashboard?

For laptops and desktops

To trace the laptops and desktop's location, inSync uses following methods:

  1. Wireless network
  2. IP address of the device, if wireless network is not available.

For laptops and desktops, the location is updated after every completed backup.

For mobile devices

Android devices:

To trace the Android device's location, inSync uses the following methods:

  1. GPS
  2. Wireless network, if GPS is not available.
  3. Last known location of the device from the cache, if both GPS and wireless network are not available.

Location of Android device is automatically updated every 20 minutes. If the inSync Server is unreachable, then the Druva Mobile App attempts to connect to inSync Server every 2 minutes until the connection is established.

iOS devices:

To trace the iOS device's location, inSync uses the following methods:

  1. GPS
  2. Wireless network, if GPS is not available.

Location of iOS device is updated at the time of backup. If the Druva Mobile App is running in background or the user exits from the app, then the significant change location service is used for callback. This service finds out the current location of the device and is notified when significant changes occur in the device location. Whenever the device's location changes significantly, the OS sends a callback to the Druva Mobile App. The app then sends the updated device location to inSync Server.
