You can restore VMs backed up via Prism Elements and Prism Centrals. You can restore a VM backed up from a Prism Element to another Prism Element or Prism Central and vice versa. We support a total number of two restore operations in parallel for each Backup proxy.
After your Nutanix environment has backed up successfully, you can perform:
A full VM restore restores the entire VM with all its vDisks from a selected recovery point. You can either restore the full virtual machine to the original location or an alternate location.
When you restore a VM to the original location, the virtual machine is restored to the same storage container and cluster it was on before the restore. The restore overwrites the original virtual machine. The power state of the VM before the restore is preserved. The VM is powered-off during the restore, its vDisks detached and then attached. The VM is reverted to the same power state it was in before the restore. Druva detaches any vDisks on the target virtual machine that weren't present during the backup.
Note: A virtual machine's Network Interface Card (NIC) is connected after the virtual machine is restored (to the original or alternate location) even though the NIC was disconnected during the virtual machine backup or before the restore.
Restore target | Description |
---|---|
Restore to original location | Restores the full VM to the original storage container, Prism, and Cluster with the original settings. |
Restore to alternate location |
Creates a new VM on the selected Prism, Cluster, and storage container with the specified settings.
|
If restoring to an alternate location, enter the following details:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Prism | From the dropdown list, select the Prism Element or the Prism Central where you want to restore the virtual machine. |
Cluster | From the dropdown list, select the Nutanix cluster where you want to restore the virtual machine. |
Storage Container | From the dropdown list, select the Storage Container where the virtual machine will be stored. |
Backup Proxy Pool | Ensure that the Default Pool is selected. |
Network | Select network settings that apply to the destination Prism and Cluster. |
Recovered VM Name (optional) |
Enter the name that should be given to the restored virtual machine. If this field is left blank, or a folder with the recovered VM name already exists in the storage container, the recovered VM is named Phoenix-Restored-VM-<original_vm_name>-<job_id> |
Click Finish.
