The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on May 06, 2017.


Unusual Data Activity

The suspicious data modification on a device is called unusual data activity. A user or a malicious software can modify data in a suspicious manner on a device. For example, if a device in your organization is under attack, typically, the malicious software on the device starts changing data on the device. When a potential threat changes data on a device, it is suspicious in nature and is unlike how the device owner works with data on the device. inSync provides reports that can help you identify devices exhibiting unusual data activity such as:

  • Large number of files deleted
  • Large number of files added
  • Unwarranted modification of files
  • Suspicious encryption of files (inSync checks if a minimum of 100 files are encrypted)

Since anomalies of this type often indicate issues that require attention, inSync flags such devices in the Unusual Data Activity Report. Being notified about devices showing unusual data activity can help you identify a potential threat in your environment such as a ransomware attack or a compromised user. Similarly, in the device details page, you can see data activity trends for the device. The Data Activity Trend tab in the device details displays a chart about the updates in each snapshot.

Improved behavior for Alerts

Now, inSync will not send an email for subscribed alerts with Severity levels set as High and Warning, if there is no alert generated.

Earlier, even though an alert was not generated for a subscribed alert set with High and Warning Severity, inSync still sent emails stating 'No alert generated'.

Known Issues

  • 42008: Logs are not available for the first snapshot after unusual data activity is enabled. If you click Download Logs for the first snapshot, Page Not Found (HTTP 404) error message is displayed.

Fixed Issues

  • 41414: Restore authentication with Single sign-on failed when Allow restore from web browser and inSync Share settings were disabled in a Profile.


inSync 5.9 CU8 Patch 1

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on April 22, 2017.

Governance Enhancements

inSync has introduced a faster, intuitive and comprehensive search capability to empower inSync Client users, IT administrators, legal teams, Information Security teams and Compliance teams in an enterprise. inSync’s Search capabilities are ideal for quick searches across user data on endpoints and SaaS apps like Office 365, Box, and G Suite. inSync uses the metadata attributes of files and emails to deliver fast and accurate search results.

Using Search, inSync administrators can:

  • Search all files and emails backed up by inSync. Administrators can use the available search filters and operators like ‘AND’, ‘()’ and ‘OR’ to obtain desired search results. 
  • Email the search results in CSV format for further analysis. 
  • Download the files and emails from the search results for offline review or ingesting the files and emails into a third-party tool for further review.
  • Restore emails from the search results to the original location or custom location.

inSync Client users can utilize search in inSync Web to:

  • Search files and emails backed up by inSync.
  • Download desired files and emails from the search results.
  • Restore emails from the search results to the original location or custom location.

Note: inSync Search is currently under controlled availability. If your organization wants to use inSync Search, kindly contact Druva Support.

Known Issues

  • 41405 - For each search query, only 100 unique search results are displayed.
  • 41222 - For inSync CloudCache Server users, files downloaded from the search results does not contain any data.
  • 41280 - For search strings like < Valid OR (invalid AND invalid) >, search requests fail to generate response.
  • 40561 - Files deleted from replication points continue to appear in search results.

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on April 15, 2017.


Report API v2

Druva has enhanced reporting APIs that you can use to generate reports. The read-only reports that you generate using these APIs now include information on serial number (serial_number) and Universally Unique Identifier (uuid) of a device. You can use serial number and uuid information of a device to uniquely identify it in the report. Following Report APIs include this information:

  • Device  List  API
  • Last Backup Status API
  • First  Backup Status API
  • Restore Details API

Improved Reports

Following inSync reports now include information on Start Time and End Time for every backup activity that happens on a user device:

Removed dependency on Sharepoint License for Microsoft OneDrive Backup

With this Cloud Update, inSync has removed dependency on the requirement of permission on SharePoint Online root site for Office 365 backup. For updated list of requirements to backup Office 365 data, see How to integrate with Office 365?

Fixed Issues

  • 40446: Label hierarchy was not created correctly while restoring emails in Gmail.
  • 39186: On the inSync Web Console if a user had multiple devices, the names of the devices were not displayed correctly.
  • 40863: Gmail calendar backups failed for users which had more than hundred events.
  • 41654: inSync Legal Hold administrators were able to access the inSync Management Console dashboard. 

inSync 5.9 CU7

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on April 1, 2017.


inSync Active Directory/LDAP Mapping Feature Enhancements

inSync Active Directory(AD)/LDAP Mapping will now only be used for,

  • Initial on-boarding - Import users from registered AD/LDAP and create users in inSync.
  • Automatically import new users that are added to AD/LDAP periodically.
Enhancements to existing features
  • Delete AD Mapping will now only delete the AD/LDAP Mapping from inSync. inSync will automatically scan users, that are part of deleted AD/LDAP Mapping, and if the users are not part of any other AD/LDAP Mapping, inSync will mark them as ‘Preserved’.
  • Synchronize user details is now available as Auto update user details - a global level setting applicable to all AD/LDAP imported users. If enabled, inSync automatically updates user details at defined interval, for all users imported in inSync using AD/LDAP Mappings. Frequency for scan is defined by Auto sync interval under AD/LDAP settings.
  • Auto preserve unmapped users  is now available as a global level setting applicable to all AD/LDAP imported users. If enabled, inSync automatically preserves any user who has been disabled or removed from your AD/LDAP. Frequency for scan is defined by Auto sync interval under AD/LDAP settings.
New feature

Auto enable users - Auto enable users will enable inSync to automatically scan periodically for all the auto-preserved unmapped users in inSync. If any users fall under any AD Mapping,  such users will be enabled in inSync. Schedule for scan is defined by Auto sync interval under AD/LDAP settings. Only inSync users which are auto-preserved will be marked as Active. Deleted users cannot be enabled again.

Deprecated features

With this CU update, following functionalities are deprecated from inSync,

  • Delete AD Mapping and Preserve Users
  • Delete AD Mapping and Delete Users
  • Manual synchronization of users using Preserve Unmapped Users.
UI updates
  • Moved Auto update user details and Auto preserve unmapped users to AD/LDAP Settings area under > Settings > AD/LDAP Accounts tab.

Enhanced Audit trail for Share activities

inSync Administrators can now view User and Administrator Audit trails for all inSync Share activities using the enhanced activity filters provided. These activity details can be viewed on the inSync Management Console or downloaded in HTML or CSV format. For more information see, Audit Trails page.

Enhanced messaging for Password Policy

inSync administrators can now see enhanced error messages related to enforced password policy on inSync Management Console. Appropriate error message appears on the UI, if passwords are not created as per the guidelines defined in password policy.

Fixed Issues

  • 40847 - inSync AD Connector process consumed more device memory than required.
  • 40573 - inSync did not backup files and folders on MAC devices, if '/' (forward slash) was used to configure root folder for backup.
  • 40666 - Scheduled backups for configured Cloud Apps failed, if Cloud Apps license was enabled after inSync Cloud restart.
  • 40649 - Preserved User Warning Alert was generated even when there was no user preserved in inSync.
  • 40242 - When inSync administrator tried downloading Admin Audit Trail that was more than 5 MB in size, inSync administrator was logged out of inSync Management Console, and was displayed an unexpected error message.
  • 41087 - SSO configuration failed, if the metadata.xml file was larger than 64k in size.

inSync 5.9 CU6

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on March 11, 2017.


End User License Agreement (EULA) Enforcement

It is now mandatory for every inSync Cloud administrator to conform to Druva EULA on their first login to inSync Management Console.

inSync Profile names are now editable

If you are a Cloud or a Profile administrator, you can edit profile names to suit your organizational requirement. Now, you can rename any profile except the Default profile, provided the new profile name is unique. For information on renaming a profile, see Update a profile.

Capability of hiding inSync Notifications

inSync administrators now have the capability to hide or snooze notifications after viewing it, until a new notification arrives. For more information, see Hide inSync Notifications.

UI Update

Druva has updated the Persona Backup (also System, App Settings) information in the  Edit Device Backup Configuration window. It now also lists Firefox and Chrome browsers, for which the app settings are backed up as part of Persona backup.

Fixed Issues

  • 38239 - inSync did not backup emails with attachments having file name winmail.dat.
  • 40271 - inSync administrator was not able to delete users in inSync Management Console.
  • 40442 - inSync failed to automatically delete preserved users after the defined period, when Auto delete preserved users setting was enabled.
  • 40341 - inSync displayed incorrect Dedupe Savings on inSync Management Console Dashboard page.

inSync 5.9 CU5

The following inSync Cloud  updates are available with the Cloud Push on February 18th, 2017.

Fixed Issues

  • 37412 - If the Owner of a Workspace was set to Shared Group, an unauthorized Profile administrator was able to view Workspace details. In cases where, the users - members of the Shared Group - did not belong to any of the profile managed by the Profile administrator, the Profile administrator was able to see Workspace details.
  • 39680 - Restore Status email notification was sent to users, even though Notify Users setting was set to NO.
  • 40224 - inSync considered configured Cloud Apps account as Devices, hence displayed incorrect Device count for users on the Manage Users page.
  • 40340 - inSync administrator was not able to add a custom folder, for backup in a profile with '&' character in it.
  • 40539 - Scheduled 'Complete Report' was not being emailed to recipients.

inSync 5.9 CU4

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on February 04, 2017. 


Cloud Apps enhancement

To keep inline with Google's rebranding changes, the term "Google Apps" has been renamed to "G Suite" in the inSync Management Console.

Settings enhancement

The Email Message Customization capability in  > Settings, has been enhanced. During customer signup, when the first inSync Cloud Administrator is created, the email ID of the cloud administrator is auto-saved in the Reply To field. 

inSync Client behavior for deleted devices

When you delete devices running inSync Client 5.9 from inSync Management Console, inSync users will observe inSync Client in disabled state for the next 30 days. After 30 days, users will be automatically logged out of inSync Client. For more information on inSync Client behavior after device delete, see Disable, enable, or delete a user device section. 

inSync 5.9 CU3 

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on January 21, 2017. 


Introduction of License & Packaging for Cloud Apps only

With the introduction of new license pricing and packaging changes, inSync now offers our customers new pricing and licensing options for Cloud Apps. At a glance, we now offer the customers an option to buy only Cloud Apps for data protection.

inSync has also introduced the capability of enabling separate settings for Cloud Apps only. Administrators can now define separate policy settings for devices and Cloud Apps, independent of each other. Customers who have purchased only Cloud Apps license and would like to try out devices as well, now have the option to enable or disable the device on their profiles. Customers also have the capability to override privacy settings without a device.

Following are the key changes introduced:

Option to Enable/Disable Device Backup and Enable/Disable Cloud Apps within a profile

Under Profiles > Create New Profile new pages have been added to define settings for Devices and or Cloud Apps. For more information, see Create a profile.

Separate settings within the profile available for Devices and  Cloud Apps

Under Profiles > Create New Profile the setting options on the Devices and Cloud Apps tabs have been grouped and moved to the left pane on the respective tab. For more information, see Create a profile.

Under Profiles > Manage Profiles all profile settings are now grouped under the following tabs:

  • General
  • Devices
  • Cloud Apps

License usage details
  • License usage details are now displayed under  My Account > Customer Details.
    • My Account > License Consumption displays Storage Consumption and License Consumption details. For more information, see My Account details page.
  • Complete Report - displays detailed License Information of users. For more information see, Complete Report.

Manage Cloud Apps accounts moved under Data Sources 

Cloud Apps is now moved under Data Sources > Cloud Apps > Manage Cloud Apps. For more information, see Manage Cloud Apps .

New permission setting added to replace existing settings 

Under  > Administrators > Roles, Edit devices has been added to replace existing permission setting tabs. For more information, see Predefined roles and rights .

Web option to set privacy settings for end users

Option available to edit privacy settings. For more information, see About the inSync Web interface .

License & Packaging changes for Managed Service Providers

Managed Service Provider Console
  • New Section added for Customer Creation and Customer Edit - Data Source & User Count for Enterprise, Elite and Elite Plus editions.
  • Cloud Apps option not available as an Add-On for Business editions.

Fixed Issues

  • 40153 - If Microsoft Shadow Copy or VSS was not running, backups failed on Windows 8 and above Windows OS versions, if C drive (C:\ or C:) was configured for backup by inSync administrator.


inSync 5.9 CU2

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on January 7, 2017. 


inSync Share Web enhancement

The shared folder deletion capability of inSync Share has been enhanced. Users are not allowed to delete folders that are shared with collaborators from inSync Client or inSync Share web, without unsharing the folder. These enhancement prevents users from accidentally deleting shared folders. For more details, see Delete content from inSync Share.

Fixed Issues

  • 39494 - During USMT settings backup, Windows Defender folder was excluded from backup. 
  • 37045 - Progress bar did not show the restore progress when the restore operation resumed after a temporary network outage.
  • 39679 - Misleading error messages were displayed during restore or backup operation if the provisioned throughput of the server exceeded the defined limit. 
  • 36807 - Session expired message was displayed if no activity was performed for 30 minutes on the inSync Client Restore window. 

inSync 5.9 CU1 

The following inSync Cloud updates are available with the Cloud Push on December 24, 2016. 


Proactive Compliance enhancement

The compliance scanning engine, which is used to scan files and emails for violations, is now enhanced.

Note: This enhancement might auto-resolve some of the existing file and email violations.
