Add self-signed certificate to Windows phone

Supported inSync mobile app versions:3.2.1 or later

Before you activate inSync mobile app on a Windows phone, you must add self-signed certificates to the Windows device. The certificate lets you authenticate the connection to the inSync Server, and activate the inSync mobile app on the Windows device.

Step 1: Export the self-signed certificate

This task must be performed by the inSync administrator. From a computer with Windows OS, you export the self-signed certificates. You need to install two certificates: one for port 443 and the other for port 6061.

To export the self-signed certificate for port 443:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox on the computer with Windows OS.
  2. Enter the URL https://<your IP or FQDN>:443. The This Connection is Untrusted message appears.
  3. Expand I understand the risk and click Add Exception.
  4. At the Add Security Exception dialog box, click View.
  5. At the Certificate Viewer dialog box, click Details tab.
  6. Click Export.
  7. At the Export Certificate Wizard, click Next.
  8. From the Export File Format, select DER encoded binary X.509 (.CER) and then click Next.
  9. Enter the filename as cert1.cer and preferably save the file at the Desktop.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. Email the cert1.cert file to the inSync user.

To export the self-signed certificate for port 6061:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox on the computer with Windows OS.
  2. Enter the URL https://<your IP or FQDN>:6061.
  9. Enter the filename as cert2.cer and preferably save the file at the Desktop.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. Email the cert2.cert file to the inSync user.

Step 2: Install the self-signed certificates on Windows device

This task must be performed by the inSync user. Once the self-signed certificates are available, you install the certificates on the Windows device.

  1. On the Windows device, open the email that contains the certificate attached.
  2. Open the cert1.cer file and install on the Windows device.
  3. Open the cert2.cer file and install on the Windows device.
  4. Close the email application.
  5. Launch the inSync mobile app.
  6. Activate the inSync mobile app.
