Introduction to Druva inSync for Groups

Overview

With the increasing adoption of Groups for easy collaboration, it is essential to safeguard this critical data from corruption, compromise, or loss. To safeguard your Groups data, Druva cloud is the perfect solution for you that ensures the integrity of data by protecting it from ransomware and provides hassle-free backup and recovery.

Data backed up for Groups

The data backup is supported for the following group types:

  • Microsoft 365 groups
  • Distribution groups
  • Security groups
  • Mail-enabled security groups

Private as well as public groups data is also backed up. The backup includes the following components:

Groups Metadata

Name, email, type, membership type, privacy, created on, members and owners, groups settings, the sensitivity label

Notes:

  • The owners of distribution groups and mail-enabled security groups are not backed up.
  • The Microsoft 365 group user context property isSubscribedByMail is not backed up.

Site

All sites and subsites content, document libraries, lists, pages, and all metadata

Required roles and permissions for access to Groups

Integration with SharePoint 

Sharepoint is an associated sub-app only for Microsoft 365 groups. The following table explains how the integration between Groups and SharePoint works for different workflows.

Discover 

(auto/manual)

If a Group is discovered

The corresponding site is discovered on the SharePoint side.

Backup

If a Group backup is triggered                       

The backup is triggered for the SharePoint site if it is configured and enabled for backup on Druva Cloud SharePoint protection page.

Scheduled backup

If the scheduled backup is triggered

The backup is triggered for the associated SharePoint site as well if it is configured and enabled for backup on Druva Cloud SharePoint protection page.

Disable

If you disable a group 

It disables the associated site on the SharePoint side.

Enable

If you enable a group 

It enables the associated site on the SharePoint side.

Delete

If you delete a group

It deletes the associated site on the SharePoint side.

Restore: Full Group Restore is supported for Microsoft 365 Groups.

In-place restore

Group metadata is restored in-place first 

Then the site data is restored to an existing site.

Restore to a new group

A new group is created. Group metadata is restored to a new group

If the source Group has a SharePoint site associated with it, a site is created linked to the Group where the site data is restored.

Note: If the SharePoint site and Microsoft 365 groups have different backup frequencies, the minimum backup frequency is considered for both.
