Add Backup Policy Page

Overview 

This topic provides instructions for configuring the backup schedule and retention period for your backup policy using the Add Backup Policy page. 

Access Path 

  1. On the menu bar, click All Organizations, and select the required organization from the drop-down list.
  2. On the menu bar, click Manage Backup Policies
    The Manage Backup Policies page opens with a list of added backup policies.
  3. Click Create New Backup Policy and select Hyper-V from the drop-down list.
    The Create New Backup Policy: Hyper-V page opens.

The Create New Backup Policy: Hyper-V page consists of the following tabs:

Summary 

On the Summary tab, you can configure the general information, such as name and description for your backup policy.

Field Description  

The following table lists the fields on the Summary tab.

Field Description
Name The name of the backup policy.
Description The short description for the backup policy.

Actions 

The following table lists the actions on the Summary tab.

Action Description
Next Navigates to the next Backup Schedule tab.

Backup Schedule 

On the Backup Schedule tab, you can configure the schedules for your backup policy.

Field Description  

The following table lists the fields on the Backup Schedule tab.

Field Description

Start at

The time when you want backups to start. In the adjacent box, select the AM or PM option depending on when you want backups to occur. 

Duration (Hrs)

The duration of the backup job after which you want backup operations to stop. For example, if you set Start at to 5 AM and you set the duration to 5 hours, backups from your server start at 5 AM and stop at 10 AM, even if they do not complete. 

Max Bandwidth (Mbps)

The maximum bandwidth that each agent can consume while backing up data to Phoenix. For scheduled backup, the job will consume the assigned bandwidth. However, for manually triggered backup, the job will consume the available bandwidth on your network.

Repeat on

The days on which you want backups to occur.

For transaction log backups, you can specify an interval of 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, or 120 minutes. 

Ignore backup duration for first backup

 

Ignores the specified backup duration for the first backup job.

You can disable this option to enforce backup duration for the first backup job.

Automatic Retry

 

The option to define the automatic retrial options for backup.

For more information, see  Backup Retry.

Note: If you do not want to define the automatic retrial options, clear the Automatic Retry check box.

Max number of retries

 

In an active schedule window, the maximum number of retry attempts for a job.

Note: By default, the field is set to 2 attempts.

Wait interval before each retry

 

The wait interval between each retry.

Note: By default, the field is set to 10 minutes.

Actions  

The following table lists the actions on the Backup Schedule tab.

Action Description

Add More

 

Adds fields to create a new schedule.

Notes:  To create multiple schedules, click Add More as many times as the number of schedules that you want to create. To delete a schedule, click the delete icon next to the schedule. If you have only one schedule defined, you cannot delete it.

Previous Navigates to the previous Summary tab.
Next Navigates to the next Retention tab. 

Retention   

On the Retention tab, you can configure the retention period for your backup data.

Field Description   

The following table lists the fields on the Retention tab.

Field Description
Policy Name The name of the retention policy.

Keep all snapshots for

The duration for which you want to retain all snapshots. 

Keep weekly revisions for

The duration for which you want to retain weekly snapshots.

Keep monthly revisions for

The duration for which you want to retain monthly snapshots.

Keep yearly revisions for

The duration for which you want to retain yearly snapshots.

Actions   

The following table lists the actions on the Add Retention Policy tab.

Action Description
Previous Navigates to the previous the Backup Schedule tab.
Finish Completes the process of adding a new backup policy.
