Overview

After your register your VMware setup with Phoenix, Phoenix with the help of backup proxy obtains information about the VMware setup and loads it in the Phoenix Management Console.

VMware details page provides you detailed information on the following,

  • List of all the virtual machines in your registered VMware setup.
  • List of all the virtual machines that you have configured for Phoenix backup.
  • List of backup proxy pools that are available in your registered VMware setup.

Access Path

On the Phoenix Management Console menu bar, click VMware > Click the <desired VMware Hypervisor or vCenter Server> for which you want to view the detailed information.

The View VMware Details page displays the following tabs:

All Virtual Machines tab

The All Virtual Machines tab displays the list of virtual machines that are available in your registered virtual server environment. You can search and select virtual machines, which you want to configure for backup.

  1. Search virtual machines
    You can search for particular virtual machines using the Search box provided above the list of virtual machines.
  2. Refresh the virtual machine list
    Click the Refresh icon search_box.png to view the updated list of virtual machines in your virtual machine setup.
  3. View virtual machines for particular Hypervisor
    Click Hypervisor and select the desired Hypervisor from the list to view the virtual machines managed under it.

Field Description

Following information is displayed for each of the virtual machine listed under All Virtual Machines tab,

Field Description
Virtual Machines Name of the virtual machine.
Hypervisor IP address of the Hypervisor for the virtual machine.
Configuration Status If the virtual machine is configured for backup, this column displays ‘Configured’ as the value.

Actions 

The following table lists the actions on the All virtual machines tab.

Action Description
Configure VM for Backup Select the virtual machine check box that you want to configure for backup and click Configure VM for Backup. For more information about configuring virtual machines for backup, see Configure virtual machines for backup.

Configured Virtual Machines tab

Configured Virtual Machines tab provides information on the virtual machines that are configured for backup in Phoenix.

  1. Search virtual machines
    You can search for particular virtual machines using the Search box provided above the list of virtual machines.

Filter and list virtual machines based on the following,

  1. Hypervisor
    Click Hypervisor and select the desired Hypervisor from the list to view the virtual machines managed under it.
  2. Server Group
    Click Server Group and select the desired server group to view the list of virtual machines, part of that server group, configured for backup.
  3. Backup Proxy Pool
    Click Backup Proxy Pool and select the desired backup proxy pool to view the list of virtual machines managed by that backup proxy pool.
  4. Last Backup Status
    Click Last Backup Status and select one of the following status to list the virtual machines as per their last backup status,
    • Successful (successful.png) - Virtual machines for which last backup was successfully completed.
    • Successful with errors (successful_with_erros.png) - Virtual machines for which last backup was successful but with errors.
    • Failed (failed.png) - Virtual machines for which last backup failed.
    • Never Backed Up (never_backed_up.png) - Virtual machines which are never backed up since they were configured.

Field Description

Following information is displayed for each of the configured virtual machine listed under the Configured Virtual Machines tab,

Field Description
Virtual Machines Name of the virtual machine configured for backup.
Hypervisor/ESXi Server IP address of the VMware Hypervisor or ESXi Server, the virtual machine is part of.
Server Group Name of the Phoenix server group, the virtual machine is part of.
Backup Proxy Pool Name of the backup proxy pool that backs up the virtual machine.
Backup Enabled Displays the status of the backup. That is, whether backup is enabled or disabled on the virtual machine.
Current CBT Status Current status of Changed Block Tracking (CBT).
Last Backup Status

Displays the status of the last backup on the virtual machine. Following information is displayed,

  • Number of days since the last backup occurred.
  • Job Id of the backup activity. Click the Job Id to view the job details such as summary, progress logs, and detailed logs related to this activity.
DR Configured Displays whether Disaster recovery is configured for this virtual machine.

Actions 

The following table lists the actions on the  Configured Virtual Machines tab.

Action Description
Backup Now Click Backup Now to trigger a manual backup on a virtual machine. For more information, see Manually backup a virtual machine.
Restore Click Restore to restore virtual machines anytime back to your virtual infrastructure. For more information, see Restore virtual machines.
Enable Backup Click Enable Backup to enable backup on a virtual machine at any point of time . For more information, see Enable backup on virtual machines.
Disable Backup Click Disable Backup to disable backup on a virtual machine at any point of time . For more information, see Disable backup on virtual machines.

Reconfigure VMs

Click Reconfigure VMs to reconfigure a virtual machine for backup. You can reconfigure a virtual machine as follows,

  • Change Server Group: To update server group associated with the virtual machine, click Change Server Group and select the server group from the drop-down list.
  • Change Backup Proxy Pool: To update the backup proxy pool attached with the virtual machine, click Change Backup Proxy Pool and select the desired backup proxy pool from the list.

Backup Proxy Pool tab

The Backup Proxy Pool tab displays information of the backup proxies configured to handle backups of the virtual machines in your registered VMware setup.

Field Description

The following information is displayed for each of the configured backup proxy pool.

Field Description
Backup Proxy Pool Name of the backup proxy pool.
# Backup Proxies Displays the number of backup proxies part of this backup proxy pool.
# Associated VMs Displays the number of virtual machines managed under this backup proxy pool for backup activity. Clicking on the integer for associated virtual machines redirects to the Configured Virtual Machines tab that populates a list of virtual machines  associated with that backup proxy pool.
Time zone Displays the time zone that is followed by this backup proxy pool.

Actions 

The following table lists the actions on the Backup Proxy Pool tab.

Action Description
Create New Pool Click Create New Pool to create a new backup proxy pool and assign it to backup proxies deployed in your virtual infrastructure. For more information, see Create a new backup proxy pool.
Add New Backup Proxy Click Add New Backup Proxy to create a backup proxy. 
vCenter Credentials Click vCenter Credentials to save the modified vCenter username or password that you have used to configure backup proxy. For more information, see Add vCenter credentials.
