Enable or disable backup on virtual machines

Enterprise Workloads Editions: File:/tick.png Business File:/cross.png Enterprise File:/tick.png Elite

By default, backup on a virtual machine is enabled, when the virtual machine is configured for backup. You can disable backup on a virtual machine at any time based on your requirement.

Druva suspends backups after disabling backups on the virtual machine. The virtual machine is backed up only after you enable the backup on the virtual machine again.

Notes:

  • The most recent recovery point cannot be deleted as long as the VM exists in the Management Console, regardless of whether the VM is marked as inactive or disabled.

  • The retention period would not be honored for the most recent recovery point when a VM is disabled. This allows you to restore the latest recovery point later if required.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Management Console
  2. From the top menu bar, select your organization if organizations are enabled.
  3. Click Protect > VMware
  4. The vCenter/ESXi host page appears that lists all the registered vCenter/hypervisors.
  5. You can either select the registered vCenter/ESXi host from the card view or list view or select it from the vCenter/ESXi host list in the left navigation pane.
  6. In the navigation pane, click Configured VMs.
Note: You can filter the virtual machines by backup sets enabled or disabled for backup using the filter option.
  7. To update the backup state of multiple virtual machines, select the virtual machine, and in more options and click Enable Backup or Disable Backup.
Alternatively, you can also click on the virtual machine you want to enable or disable.
Click the more options button and depending on what you want to do, click Enable Backup or Disable Backup.
  8. Confirm your changes and the status is updated in the Backup Enabled column.
