Why do I need multiple profiles?
You need multiple profiles to manage users across your organization better. A profile acts like a container to which you can associate different attributes. It also functions as a versatile grouping tool for users across your organization. You need to decide how users will be grouped. Druva recommends that you associate a separate profile to each group.
For example, you may create groups of users, where each group belongs to a business unit. The folders backed up for each group can be different based on the business unit. You may need to assign different permissions to the different groups. A single profile cannot handle all the requirements in this case. However, when you create a group-specific profile that addresses the group's backup and restore requirements, managing users becomes easy.
The kind and type of user groups depend on your organization and your organization’s policies.
Should I create separate profiles for different platforms?
This is not necessary. The need for platform-specific configuration arises only while configuring folders for backup. You can create one profile, and define for backup across Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. The rest of the settings such as backup schedule and compaction policies are common to all platforms.
Can one user be a part of multiple profiles?
No. One user can belong to only one profile.
Can I move users between profiles?
Yes, you can. When you associate a user with a new profile, the backup settings of the new profile override the settings of the earlier profile. This means that the user’s data is backed up from folders defined in the new profile. Backups across this user’s devices follow the schedule defined for the new profile.
What is the maximum number of devices that a user can add?
inSync does not restrict the number of devices that each user can add. You can however, set the maximum number of devices that users of a profile can add. To know how to do this, Modify the summary of the relevant profile.
Can I make inSync client inconspicuous to the users?
Yes. You can make inSync client inconspicuous to the users by disabling inSync notifications. To know more, see Enable inSync notifications.
Does inSync allow to restrict the inSync Administrator from accessing the user backed up data?
Yes. If you do not want administrators to access and restore user data, the Allow admin access to user data option under User Privacy & Access needs to be cleared (unchecked) from the inSync profile. Once the profile update is saved, the administrator cannot access the users' backed up data.
Can the users restrict inSync Administrator from accessing their data?
Yes. If the Allow users to edit privacy settings is selected (checked) in the inSync profile assigned to the users, the inSync users can restrict access to their data by selecting the Data Privacy option on the My Account tab of the inSync Client.
What are the different authentication methods which can be configured through inSync profile for inSync Client activation or inSync web login?
While configuring a profile:
- If users must use the password assigned by inSync, select inSync Password.
- If users must use Single Sign-On credentials, click Single Sign-On.
- If users must use their AD/LDAP credentials, click AD/LDAP Account.
Can we disable backup of data from users' iOS and Android devices?
Yes. You can disable users to back up data from their iOS and Android devices. For more information on how you can update this permission, see Enable backup from mobile devices.
Would an existing backup continue to work if the Blackout window is reached?
Yes, an existing backup would continue to run. The blackout window would only prevent a fresh backup from getting triggered during the said window.
Does inSync have a blackout window for Cloud apps backup?
inSync does not provide a blackout window for Cloud Apps backups.
In what scenarios is the blackout window restriction not honored?
The blackout window restriction is not honored in the following scenarios:
- Backups manually triggered by a user or an inSync Administrator.
- If a user device was marked as inactive, and at any point of time the device connects to inSync Master, Blackout window time slot is not honored and that device is immediately backed up.
Is it possible to create an exact replica of an existing profile?
Yes. Access the Profiles page and select the profile you want to replicate. Click on the “Copy” tab at the bottom of the page to create a duplicate profile with a different name.
Is there a way to restrict restores from a web browser?
Yes. To prevent users from restoring data by accessing their inSync account through a web browser, uncheck the “Allow restore from a Web browser” option present under User Privacy and access column under General tab.
Can we delete a profile which is still associated with an inSync user?
No. The profile deletion would fail with the following error “1 user(s) still provisioned on this profile. Cannot delete it".
Can I back up a network drive mapped to a device?
No, inSync does not support backing up network drives.
Who is a profile administrator?
An administrator assigned to this role has restricted access associated with their profiles. They have the necessary permissions to manage users and devices, and backups and restores.
Profile administrators can access the Non-Compliance report only for the profiles that they are mapped to. However, they cannot view the compliance summary at the Compliance Dashboard, or configure a compliance policy. Additionally, profile administrators cannot place or view users on legal hold.
Who can create a profile administrator?
Only an inSync server administrator can create and manage a profile administrator.
What time zone does inSync follow for device backups?
Druva inSync follows the time zone of the user's device provided Use admin time zone check box is not selected. To synchronize backups of all the devices to inSync administrator's time zone, select Use admin time zone check box under Schedule & Retention: Backup Schedule > Laptops & Desktops Schedule.
When Use admin time zone is selected, inSync follows the time zone of the inSync administrator who made the change.
Is there a way to restrict the resource utilization by inSync Client during a backup?
The following options are present under inSync profile control resource utilization during a backup:
Max bandwidth [WAN]
Enter the maximum network bandwidth that the user devices can consume while backing up data over WAN. You can indicate the maximum bandwidth in absolute values or as a percentage of the total available bandwidth. To enable unlimited bandwidth consumption, enter 0 (zero).
inSync requires a minimum bandwidth of 128 Kbps for backups over WAN. If you set the bandwidth in percentage, ensure that the maximum WAN bandwidth is not less than 128 Kbps.
Select the priority that you want to assign to inSync, on the user device. Druva recommends that you set the CPU priority to an optimal value. Assigning a higher CPU priority may affect the performance of other applications on the user's device. Assigning a lower CPU priority might increase the time required for backup. Druva recommends that CPU priority must be set to an optimal value.
For how long are the client backups retained?
inSync Client backup retention is controlled by the retention policy configured in the inSync profile.
How does “Auto delete” feature work under DLP?
You can enable auto delete of data from a laptop and desktop that has not connected to inSync Master for a specified number of days. This feature is controlled through profiles and not at an individual user level.
How does Global exclusion work?
When you enabled Global exclusion, inSync Client excludes the file types that you specify in the global exclude list irrespective of the filters set at the folder level by the inSync Administrator or the user.
Can I add wildcard exclusions?
Druva inSync provides the option to add regular expressions to define complex search patterns that match the criteria of the files or folders that you want to exclude.
