Why does inSync On-Premise use TCO Port 443 as a default port

  • Druva inSync uses TCP port 443 as the default port in it's single-port architecture, as this port is usually open for communication through corporate firewalls.
  • Using TCP port 443 ensures that data is accessed through a secure website.
  • In a single port architecture, the SSL Port 443 is used as a backup\sync port and also for accessing the inSync administrator and inSync web consoles.
  • When using a single port architecture TLS version 1.2 is used for enhanced data privacy and data integrity. This provides you with enhanced security for your data by preventing eavesdropping, tampering, or forgery.
  • When using inSync On-Premise if you choose any other port for communication, inSync users and administrators need to enter the port number in the URL to access the respective inSync web and administrator web pages. For example:
    • When using 443: https://ServerFQDN/admin or https://ServerFQDN/home
    • When using any other port: http://ServerFQDN:port/admin or https://ServerFQDN:port/home
  • When using 443, you can simply access the websites using HTTPS in the beginning without mentioning the port as the default port for HTTPS is 443.

Any port used by inSync is by default made secure using self-signed cert. For example, SSL over Port 80, 6061.
