VMware backup fails with Failed to extract and set OS attributes collection from Prerequisites or VMX data

Problem description

  • Both, scheduled and manual  backup fails with the same error.

Failed to extract and set OS attributes collection from Prerequisites or VMX data

  • This can happen if the Vcenter is on a lower version than ESXi.

e.g Esxi on 6.0 and Vcenter on 5.1.0.

  • Can happen due to Vcenter License issue.

  • VM Snapshot phase will not complete in this case.
