How to verify whether the ESX/vSphere host is licensed for vStorage APIs

Overview

Phoenix backup proxy agent for VMware virtual infrastructure integrates with ESX and vSPhere vStorage API (VADP) to perform backup and restore.  If the ESX/vSphere host is not licensed for the vStorage APIs, the backup and restore operations fail.

Error

Error Code: VMWARE_VMOMI65535 
Error Message: VMware VMOMI: Internal Error [Current license or ESXi version prohibits execution of the requested operation.] 

Verify whether the ESX/vSphere host is licensed

Check the following to verify whether the ESX/vSphere host is licensed:

  • On ESX(i)/vSphere 4.x or 5.x, navigate to Configuration > Licensed Features and verify whether vStorage APIs are listed.

  • On ESX(i)/vSphere 7.x, navigate to Configure > System > Licensing > Licensed Features and verify whether Storage APIs are listed.

If the ESX(i)/vSphere host is not licensed for the above options, contact VMware to obtain the vStorage APIs (or VADP) license.
