How to run the AWS VMImportChecker script to find the reason for VM import failure

Overview

VMImportChecker script can be used to identify the issue with the VM due to which AWS import image function can fail while running DRaaS. This article describes the procedure to run the AWS VMImportChecker script.

Run the AWS VMImportChecker script

  1. Configure execution policy on the VM to enable the AWS VMImportChecker script to run on the VM.
    1. Login to the impacted VM as an administrator.
    2. Open a new PowerShell window and run the following command:

      Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted -Force
  2. Run the AWS VMImportChecker script.
    1. Download the VMImportChecker script from the following link:

      Link to script: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/andsoria/VMImportChecker.zip
    2. Extract the zip file and run the VMImportChecker.ps1 file. The script generates a list of import failure reasons as shown in the image below.
