Access control for Legal Hold administrators
Overview
As an inSync Cloud administrator, you can provide Legal administrators access only to specific types of Legal Hold policies. This will enable the administrator to view policies that belong only to those types.
When you assign roles to a Legal administrator such as create, manage, view, and delete, it’s restricted to the specific types of Legal Hold policies. The Legal administrator cannot access policies of other types.
This is helpful when there are several Teams contributing to the legal matters of the organization.
Any Legal administrator created before May 15, 2021, with Create and manage holds right, will get access to all Legal Hold policies in your organization if you have not assigned a type to a policy.

Create a Legal Hold policy type

Click the
icon to access the Global Navigation Panel and click Data Governance > eDiscovery.

Click Settings on the left pane.

Click Add Legal Hold Type.

In the Type name field, enter a phrase that you want to use to categorize a group of Legal Hold policies.

Click Save.
Note:
- If the administrator has Custom Legal Hold type access, after creation of a new Legal Hold type, administrator must re-login to view and apply the newly created type. Based on the assigned roles and rights, administrators can create and add, edit or delete a type.
If the administrator has All Legal Hold type access, after creation of a new Legal Hold type, administrators need not re-login to view and apply the newly created type.
Rename a Legal Hold policy type
Notes:
You cannot change the names of the policy types that are available by default.
Renaming will update the type name everywhere on the inSync Management Console. It might also confuse existing Legal administrators who belong to that type. We recommend exercising caution before renaming a type.

Click the
icon to access the Global Navigation Panel and click Data Governance > eDiscovery.

Click Settings on the left pane.

Select the Legal Hold Type and click
(more options) and click Edit.
- Make the desired changes and click Save.
Delete a Legal Hold policy type
Notes:
You cannot delete the policy types that are available by default.
When you delete a type, Legal administrators will no longer be able to view the Legal Hold policies in that type.

Click the
icon to access the Global Navigation Panel and click Data Governance > eDiscovery.

Click Settings on the left pane.

Select the Legal Hold Type and click
(more options) and click Delete.

Click Delete on the confirmation box.
