Compaction is the process of deleting expired data to make room for new data. With each backup, the previous backup data becomes obsolete. inSync retains this obsolete data for the period that your retention policy dictates. For example, if your organization's policy mandates a retention of 90 days, inSync retains the obsolete data for 90 days. After 90 days, inSync deletes this data from the storage space. This allows you to have more free storage space.
The compaction process is resource-intensive and time-consuming. We recommend that you perform compaction during off-peak hours. In addition to daily compaction, we also recommend that you run a weekly compaction for a longer duration.
To compact a storage
- On the inSync Master Management Console menu bar, click Manage > Storage List.
- Under the Storage List tab, click the storage and click Compact Now.
