What are the versions of inSync mobile app that support port 443?

inSync mobile app version 3.7.1 for Android supports port 443. Earlier versions of inSync Mobile app for Android do not support port 443.
To resolve the issue, you must upgrade to inSync mobile app 3.7.1 for Android.

iOS devices that have older MDM profiles do not support port 443.

To resolve this issue:

  • Open the outbound port 6068 or the configured MDM port on the inSync Server. Currently, the MDM communication uses port 6068.

Or

  • Manually remove older MDM profiles from the devices, and then install new MDM profiles.

Support for Windows device

Can users back up data on a Windows device?

The inSync mobile app does not back up data on a Windows device. Apps on the Windows device get only 10 seconds every 30 minutes to update their tiles in the background. This is a very short duration for the inSync mobile app to complete a backup operation in the background. You can access backup and share data by using the inSync mobile app.

Can users add files to the inSync Share folder by using the inSync mobile app on their Windows device?

Yes. Users can access backup and share data by using the inSync mobile app. They can also add content to their inSync Share folder by using the inSync mobile app.

Single sign-on integration (Applicable for inSync Cloud)

Is single sign-on (SSO) integrated with the inSync mobile app?

Yes. Single sign-on (SSO) is integrated with the inSync mobile app. If you have an inSync Cloud account, you can configure SSO with the inSync Master. For more information, see Configure single sign-on for inSync users.

If SSO is integrated, can I deny access to the inSync mobile app based on approved IP ranges or geographies?

You cannot deny access to the inSync mobile app based on approved IP ranges or geographies. SSO is a one-time authentication. On successful user authentication, the inSync mobile app does not send any request to the SSO server.

Active Directory integration

Can I configure Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) with SAML?

Yes. You can configure AD FS to communicate with SAML 2.0.

For more information on Active Directory integration with inSync Master for inSync Cloud, see Active Directory integration and mass deployment. For more information on Active Directory integration with inSync Master for inSync On-premise, see Active Directory integration and mass deployment.

Can I backup large amount of data on iOS?

iOS platform has a known limitation of any app being able to execute only 3 minutes in the background. As a result, inSync might not be able to complete app data backups already handled.

In an inSync Private Cloud deployment, which ports does the inSync mobile app use to send a backup or restore request to the inSync Edge Server? (Applicable for inSync On-Premise  and iOS)

The inSync mobile app uses ports 6061 and 6071 to send a backup or restore request to the inSync Edge Server. For more information on inSync Edge Server, see About inSync Edge Server.

Password and data security

How are passwords secured on the inSync mobile app?

On an iOS device, after successful user authentication, the inSync Master generates a device key for subsequent authentication. This key is securely saved on the keychain of the device.

On an Android device, the PIN that users set on the inSync mobile app secures the user password.

Is the inSync app container encrypted? How do we encrypt data on iOS and Android?

On an Android device, by default, the inSync app container is encrypted.
