Back up and download mobile forensics data

How to back up mobile forensics data?

To back up the mobile forensics data, you have to configure the backup settings for required profile. The backup settings will then be enforced for all users that are associated with the updated profile. 

You can configure the settings to back up mobile forensics data in either of the following methods:

Creating a profile

To create a profile to back up mobile forensics data:

  1. On the inSync Master Management Console menu bar, click Profiles.
  2. Click Create New Profile. The profile creation wizard appears.
  3. Provide the appropriate information in each field. For more information, see Fields in the profile creation wizard
  4. On the Mobile Access and Backup page, enter the following information:
    1. Select the Allow access from mobile devices check box.
    2. Select the Enable mobile backup check box.
    3. Under the Android tab, select the App Settings, Call Logs & Messages check box.
  5. Click Next to enter additional information for the profile. 
  6. Click Finish.

Updating an existing profile

To update an existing profile to back up mobile forensics data:

  1. On the inSync Master Management Console menu bar, click Profiles.
  2. Click the profile that you want to update. 
  3. On the profile page, select the Mobile Access & Backup tab.
  4. From the Mobile Access & Backup area, click Edit.
  5. On the Mobile Access & Backup page, enter the following information:
    1. Select the Allow access from mobile devices check box.
    2. Select the Enable mobile backup check box.
    3. Under the Android tab, select the App Settings, Call Logs & Messages check box.
  6. Click Save.

Note: Global folder and file exclusions will not be applicable while backing up forensics data on Android devices.

Track the administrator-related activities

After creating or updating a profile, you can view the updates made to the profiles from the Admin Audit Trails.

To track the administrator activities

  1. On the inSync Master Management Console menu bar, click Governance > Audit Trails. The Audit Trails page appears.
  2. Click the Admin Audit Trails tab. The list of activities appears in the right pane.

How to download mobile forensics data?

After you configure the mobile forensics capability, the mobile forensics data is collected according to the configured schedule for the Android devices. You can download the forensics data for an Android device after the first backup is completed through the WebDAV access URL. However, you cannot restore the forensics data.

To download mobile forensics data through WebDAV access URL, you must perform the following tasks:

  1. Obtain the WebDAV access details.
  2. Access WebDAV through a web browser.
  3. Download the forensics data from the WebDAV access URL.

You can also access WebDAV by using HTTP connectors within eDiscovery tools or by using a mapped network drive. For more information, see Access legal hold data using WebDAV.

Step 3: Download the forensics data from the WebDAV access URL

After you access the WebDAV access URL, you can download the mobile forensics data from WebDAV.

To download the forensics data from WebDAV:

  1. In WebDAV, click ForensicsData,v1 folder. A list of forensics data appears. 

  2. Click the file that you want to download.

The file is downloaded to the default download location of your web browser.
