Configure inSync Edge Server with inSync Storage Node

inSync Private Cloud Editions: File:/tick.png Elite File:/tick.png Enterprise

About inSync Edge Server configuration process

When you install an inSync Master, an inSync Storage Node (local storage node) is also installed on the same server. The local storage node always uses the inSync Edge Server that is configured for the inSync Master. For all other inSync Storage Nodes, you can configure an inSync Edge Server. To ensure that all requests from inSync outside the organization's firewall are directed through the inSync Edge Server, configure inSync Edge Server for all inSync Storage Nodes.

Multi-step Configuration process

Step 1 of 3: Install inSync Edge Server

All inSync Storage Nodes and the inSync Master within the same firewall can use the same inSync Edge Server. So, if an inSync Storage Node is on the same network as the inSync Master or if it is on a network where an inSync Edge Server is already installed, you do not need to install a separate inSync Edge Server. For more information, see Install inSync Edge Server.

Step 2 of 3: Generate inSync Edge Server registration key

The inSync Edge Server registration key acts as a unique identifier for the inSync Edge Server and secures the communication between inSync Edge Server and inSync Master.

On Windows

To generate the registration key

  1. Log on to the computer where you installed the inSync Edge Server.
  2. On the Start menu, click All Programs > Druva inSync inSync Edge Server > Druva inSync Edge Server.
  3. Click Copy the registration key.

On Linux

To generate the inSync Edge Server registration key

  1. Log on to the computer where you installed the inSync Edge Server.
  2. Open a terminal.
  3. Run the following command:
    sudo insync-edgeserver-config.sh -k
  4. Click Copy the registration key.

Step 3 of 3: Register inSync Edge Server with inSync Storage Node

On Windows

To register inSync Edge Server

  1. Log on to the computer where you installed the storage node.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > Druva inSync Storage Node > Druva inSync Storage Node.
  3. On the Druva inSync Storage Node window, click Advanced Options.
  4. Provide the appropriate information for each field.
    Field Action
Enable Edge Server Select this check box to associate the inSync Edge Server with the inSync Storage Node.
IP Address/FQDN Type the IP address or FQDN  of the inSync Edge Server.
Backup and sync port Type the port that inSync uses to communicate with the inSync Edge Server. The default port is 443.
Registration Key Provide the inSync Edge Server registration key that you copied when you generated the key.
    Storage Node FQDN

Enter the FQDN of the inSync Storage Node.

To connect to a private network, the Storage Node FQDN must resolve to the remote inSync Storage Node’s  LAN IP address.

To connect to a public network, the Storage Node FQDN must resolve to Edge Server’s public IP address that is connected to the inSync Storage Node.

  5. Click Save.

On Linux

To register inSync Edge Server

  1. Log on to the computer where you installed the storage node.
  2. Open a terminal.
  3. Run the following command:
    sudo insync-storagenode-config.sh -e
  4. On prompt, provide the appropriate information for each field.
    Field Action
Hostname for the edge server Type the IP address or FQDN  of the inSync Edge Server.
Port for edge server Type the port that inSync uses to communicate with the inSync Edge Server. The default port is 443.
Secret key for edge server Provide the inSync Edge Server registration key that you copied when you generated the key.
