Configure the user data privacy policy

Overview

By default, administrators can access user data across your organization. However, you can:

  • Prevent all administrators (including yourself) from accessing user data.
  • Allow users to prevent administrator access to data.
Note: You can configure the user data privacy policy for inSync through profiles. You cannot do this on an individual user level.

The following table lists how privacy settings affect administrator access to user data.

Note: If you do not select any of these check boxes, the Privacy tab does not appear on inSync. Users cannot prevent or allow administrator access to data. Administrators cannot download backup data or share data. 

Configure the user data privacy settings

To configure the user data privacy settings

  1. On the inSync Master Management Console menu bar, click Manage > Profiles.
  2. Click the link of the profile for which you want to configure the user data privacy settings.
  3. Click the Backup Policies tab.
  4. Under the Retention and Access Policies, click Edit. The Edit Profile window appears.
  5. Select or click to clear the following check boxes:
    • If you want administrators to download users' backup or share data, click the Allow admin access to user data check box. You can set this option only once. If you choose to prevent administrator access to user data, you cannot change this setting again.
    • If you want to display the Privacy tab on the inSync interface, click the Allow users to edit privacy settings check box. Users can control administrator access to data by using this tab. 
  6. Click Save.
Note: If you move a user from one profile to another, the privacy settings of the new profile are reflected for the user.
