New features and enhancements

The following table lists the new features and enhancements for inSync On-premise 5.4.

Persona backup enhancements

  • IMD now supports automatic migration of system settings, thus ensuring easier OS migration and minimum loss of productivity.
Data governance
  • Legal hold policies provide a more robust, enterprise-wide control for data protection and governance.
  • Legal administrators can preserve user data for users that are put on legal hold.
  • The new legal administrator role roles enable you to provide privileges and access for your legal team to manage legal hold and review user data on endpoints.
  • Support for easy, authenticated access to held data through WebDAV client access facilitates the use of third-party ediscovery tools to view and analyze user data.
Efficient administration
  • inSync now automatically optimizes data scans for large number of files, which results in quicker backups.
  • Support for moving users across storage pool ensures user portability and optimal usage of available storage.
  • New activation key-based licensing removes dependency on server ID for activating your inSync setup.
Greater control over collaborative data
  • Administrators can now create workspaces that enable an improved collaboration experience for users within and across departments within an enterprise.
  • Managed workspaces allow administrators to create IT-managed folders and assign them to defined groups (finance, HR, marketing) and delegated owners as required for ownership changes.
  • Workspaces also enable distributed teams to work across time zones and firewalls without the need for special file sharing software.
Improved data share experience
  • Administrators can now create share groups for a better data share experience. By functioning as aliases, share groups ensure simple, one-operation data share experience between members. Users can now share files with the entire group instead of individual members, thus making data share easier.
  • Accelerated sync ensures that newly-created files and folders are available on all user devices within minutes.
  • Support for customizable location of inSync Share ensures added user control and a personalized share experience.
  • Enhancements to share links ensure greater and intuitive end-user experience.
Improved end-user experience
  • The new, improved inSync Web interface ensures a user-friendly share and collaboration experience.
  • Continuous downloads ensure that interrupted downloads resume automatically once Internet connectivity is established.

Known issues and workarounds

The following table lists the known issues that exist in version 5.4.

Issue Description
26193

When you have more than 20,000 users or devices that use inSync, you might not be able to view or download the Complete Report report type on the inSync Master Management Console.

Workaround: None.

26354
If you are using Firefox 29, when you have more than 12 profiles, the Manage Profiles page does not display any information.
Workaround: Use any browser other than Firefox.
26247

On a Linux server, the administrator cannot set the Web restore port number to a port number that is less than 1024.

Workaround: Set the Web restore port number to a port number that is greater than 1024.

26126

When a user belongs to an organization unit (OU) with unicode characters in its name in the Active Directory (Active Directory), the MAC device activation by using integrated mass deployment (IMD) fails.

Workaround: Add the same user to a non-unicode OU, and then activate the device by using IMD.

26188

Instead of the license key, the CPU ID appears in various places, such as the license expiry alert email, the License Information section in the Complete Report, and in the serverinfo file.

Workaround: Contact Druva support to obtain your new license.

26968

After an inSync Server backed up using Microsoft NTBackup is restored, all devices associated with the storage on the server are expected to backup all files from the backup folders. However, for performance optimized storage, backup from devices fail.

Workaround: None.

26263

The first backup after restore check on a device should be a full backup if any file fails to restore. However, for devices backing up to a performance optimized storage, only files that failed to restore are backed up.

Workaround: None.

20734

When browsing through a snapshot, if a folder contains more than 10,000 files, the inSync interface stops responding.

Workaround: None. If you want to restore a file from within the folder containing large number of files, restore the folder without browsing through it.

23408

Sometimes, the profile details pages do not appear if a storage is unhealthy. This is a rare occurrence.

Workaround: None.

22439 Multiple versions are backed up for files with .eml extension stored in the inSync Share folder even if no changes are made to them. The Windows Search Service causes this issue.
Workaround: Disable Windows Search Service or turn off Windows Indexing on the Windows computers where inSync client is installed.
23903

On OS X Mavericks, overlay icons in inSync Share do not appear in the list view.

Workaround: None.

24189

If users and groups belong to different domains during AD mapping, the Integrated mass deployment fails.

Workaround: Instead of putting users from all the domains to a single universal group, create groups in each subdomains.

24784

If the administrator activated the inSync client by using an authkey, optimized PST backup from Outlook (MAPI backup), backup of encrypted files, and syncing of encrypted files fail..

Workaround: Restart the inSync client service after activating the client using authkey.

24689

Integrated mass deployment fails for users with Unicode characters in their name.

Workaround: None.

22643

inSync Web becomes unresponsive when the user is browsing through a restore point that has more than 50,000 files.

Workaround: None.

25986

When the administrator views data for a user that is on legal hold by using the WebDAV data access URL, an incorrect timestamp appears for some files or folders.

Workaround: None.

Fixed issues

After upgrading from inSync Private Cloud 5.1.1 installed on Ubuntu Linux, inSync Master Management Console is not accessible.

23830

If you update the port number of a storage node by using the inSync Master Management Console, the port number is not updated in the configuration file.
