About inSync Edge Server configuration process

To ensure that all requests from inSync outside the organization's firewall are directed through the inSync Edge Server, configure inSync Edge Server for the inSync Master.

The following table lists the multi- step configuration process.

Step Action
Step 1 Install inSync Edge Server on a Windows or Linux server located on a DMZ. For more information, see Install inSync Edge Server.
Step 2 Log on to the computer where you installed the inSync Edge Server and generate the inSync Edge Server registration key. For more information, see Step 2: Generate the inSync Edge Server registration key.
Step 3 Log on to the inSync Master Management Console and provide the inSync Edge Server details. For more information, see Step 3: Register inSync Edge Server with inSync Master.
Step 4

Update the web restore URL to the FQDN of the inSync Master instead of the IP address of the inSync Master. For more information, see Step 4: Update the web restore URL.

Step 2: Generate the inSync Edge Server registration key

The inSync Edge Server registration key acts as a unique identifier for the inSync Edge Server and secures the communication between inSync Edge Server and inSync Master.

On Windows

To generate the registration key

  1. Log on to the computer where you installed the inSync Edge Server.
  2. On the Start menu, click All Programs > Druva inSync inSync Edge Server > Druva inSync Edge Server.
  3. Click Copy the registration key.

On Linux

To generate the inSync Edge Server registration key

  1. Log on to the computer where you installed the inSync Edge Server.
  2. Open a terminal.
  3. Run the following command:
    sudo insync-edgeserver-config.sh -k
  4. Click Copy the registration key.

Step 3: Register inSync Edge Server with inSync Master

To register inSync Edge Server

  1. Log on to the inSync Master Management Console.
  2. Click Manage > Settings.
  3. Under the Edge Servers tab, click Edit.
  4. On the Edit Settings window, provide the appropriate information for each field.
    Field Action
Enable edge server for my master? Select this check box to associate the inSync Edge Server with the inSync Master.
IP Address/FQDN Enter the IP address or FQDN  of the inSync Edge Server.
    Backup and sync port

Type 6061, the default port, as the port that inSync uses to communicate with the inSync Edge Server.

    Master FQDN

Enter the FQDN of the inSync Master. For example, master.example.com. The Edge Server uses the Master FQDN to identify the connection and route the HTTP connections to the inSync Master Management Console.

Note: To connect to a private network, the Master FQDN must resolve to the inSync Server’s LAN IP address.

To connect to a public network, the Master FQDN must resolve to the Edge Server’s public IP address.

  5. Click Save.
  6. If the inSync Master is on Linux, restart inSync Master.
