inSync Share

I have multiple devices. How do I share data among them?

You can install inSync on all your devices and then place files in the inSync Share folder. The files are automatically synced across the inSync Share folder on your devices. As the inSync Share functionality is governed by your administrator, ensure that this functionality is enabled for you.

How frequently is data synced between my devices?

Sync starts the moment you place a document in your inSync Share folder.

Can I stop syncing data between my devices?

No. You cannot stop inSync from syncing data between your devices.

Can I limit the bandwidth that inSync uses to sync data between my devices?

No. You cannot limit the network bandwidth that inSync consumes during syncing data between devices.

Can I access my inSync Share folder through a Web browser?

Yes. You can access your inSync Share folder through a Web browser only if your administrator has given you the required permission. For more information, see Access inSync Web.

How do I access content that is shared with me?

When somebody adds you as a collaborator to a shared folder, you receive an email invitation. As soon as a folder is shared with you, it appears on your inSync Web. You can view the folder on the shared content list under inSync Share. The shared folder, however, is not synced to your inSync Share folder on your laptops. For more information, see About the Shared folder invitation email.

How do I upload files to my inSync Share folder?

There are two ways of uploading files to your inSync Share folder:

  • Copy the files or folders inside the inSync Share folder. Files and folders added to the inSync Share folder are synced across all your devices.
  • Upload the files using inSync Web. You can also create a folder on the inSync Web.

For more information, see Add content to inSync Share.

$ End of string To search for all files with names ending with pdf, type pdf$.
* Wildcard To search for all files that has the word ext in its name, type *ext*.
, or | Multiple pattern To search for all files with names starting with new or ending with old, type ^new, old$. Alternatively, you can type ^new|old$.

Does the content in the inSync Share folder add to my quota?

Yes. Any content that you place in your inSync Share folder adds to your quota. However, if someone has shared content with you, then that content does not add to your quota.

What happens to my shared content if I delete data from my device?

If you are the owner of the shared folder, then on deleting data from your device the share content is also deleted.

Some files in my inSync Share folder have 'conflict' appended to their name. Why?

In the inSync Share folder, if you have opened a file and you are working on it and a collaborator also opens the same file after you and starts working on it, then inSync saves the collaborator’s changes with “conflict” appended in the file name. Your changes are saved in the original file.

On my Windows computer, some files or folders in my inSync Share folder have Bad Conflict appended to their name. Why does this happen?

On Mac and Linux, you can save files and folders that contains only a space in their names, such as “ .txt” or “  ”. On Windows, files or folder names containing only spaces are not supported. inSync syncs such files or folders with Bad Conflict appended to the file or folder name. For example, “ .txt” appears as “Bad Conflict.txt.”

I changed the host name of my laptop. Will inSync Share work?

No. Your inSync Share will not work if the host or domain name of your laptop is changed.

Share links

What are share links?

You can share content with others by using a URL. The users with whom you want to share content do not have to be inSync Share users. Any person you share the URL with can access your shared content.

What type of documents can one view directly on a Web browser?

Using the View link, users can open files directly in the inSync viewer. The inSync Viewer supports Microsoft® Office documents (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and PDF files only.
