Update network bandwidth

Overview

During backups or syncs, data is transferred from the devices to the inSync storage. These data transfers consume bandwidth.

Your administrator configures the network bandwidth for the inSync Client.  If your administrator allows you to configure the bandwidth usage for your inSync Client, you can limit the bandwidth that inSync consumes for backing up data. This ensures that all applications on the your laptop get a fair share of the available network bandwidth even during backups. A lower bandwidth can result in prolonged backups. You can limit bandwidth as a percentage of the available bandwidth. inSync will calculate the bandwidth available to it before starting the backup and then utilize the configured percentage of it.

If your administrator does not allow you to update the bandwidth usage for your inSync Client, then the bandwidth usage that is configured by your administrator appears in read-only mode.

Note:
  • inSync Client requires a minimum bandwidth of 16 Kbps for backups over WAN. If you set the bandwidth as a percentage value, ensure that the maximum WAN bandwidth is not less than 16 Kbps.
  • Administrator defines the bandwidth the inSync Client can utilize for backups. inSync Client uses the lesser of the values configured by you and the administrator for backup.

Procedure

To update the network bandwidth utilization

  1. Start the inSync Client.
  2. On the navigation pane, click Settings.
  3. Under the General tab, move the Bandwidth Usage slider to set the network bandwidth that your laptop can consume while the inSync Client is backing up data.
