Release details of inSync Client 5.8

The following table lists the new features and enhancements for inSync Client 5.8.

Office 2016 support inSync 5.7 now supports Office 2016. Organizations can leverage the inSync Email Backup functionality to backup Office 2016.
To ensure that email files of Outlook 2016 are safely backed up, IT managers can easily configure email clients.For more information on Office 2016 configuration, see Include emails for backup.
IPv6 Support

With the advent of IPv6, an internet protocol, many organizations have started planning for IPv6 support and are increasingly looking for applications to support IPv6. inSync 5.8 now supports IPv6 and it enables customers to use inSync over Microsoft DirectAccess.

Client User Interface Enhancements

inSync 5.8 provides the following UI enhancements in client:

Simplified workflow for adding new folders instead of the pop-up window, and display of contextual information (path) for existing folders. Client 5.8 is redefined to provide contextual information upfront, such as the following:     
  • Information about backup operations such as the approximate size of the directory.
  • Enhanced user interface for viewing Last Backup Details.
  • Information about share operations such as time and date when the sync operation was last completed, and the list of recently-synced files.
To reduce clutter while configuring folders for backup, the hidden files are not displayed unless specified to do so.  New Sync & Share menu that provides the following capabilities: 
  • Information about the time and date when the sync operation was last completed, and the list of recently-synced files.
  • Ability to access the Share Web or the shared folder on your computer.
  • Ability to change the location of the inSync Share folder.  
Seamless integration with Systems Finder plugin for Mac, that offers highly-functional context menu. For Mac OS X version 10.11 onwards, all Share options are available at the top level and not as sub menus. The menu will appear as follows:

Display of the approximate size of the directory, configured by the user or the inSync administrator. Capability to pause sync operation, pause backup operation, or pause both sync and backup operations simultaneously.

The following images show the UI enhancements made for Pause Sync and Pause Backup processes:

3G/4G Hotspot and Mi-Fi Detection

inSync 5.8 now enables end-users to disable endpoint backups via personal mobile hotspots and Mi-Fi devices. This allows end-users and organizations to minimize their personal hotspot or Mi-Fi data usage and costs. The end-user can disable endpoint backups or unblock blocked networks. For example, as shown in the following image:

inSync 5.8 Sync and Share for Enhancements 

Collaborating with users within and outside the organization just got easier with inSync Share! 

inSync 5.8 enables users to quickly share links to files and folders through a single step process. To enhance the collaboration experience, inSync 5.8 now enables email IDs to auto populate and allows users to add any context around the link (to the file or folder) they are sharing.

Release details of inSync Client 5.5

The following table lists the new features and enhancements for inSync Client 5.5.

Metadata Capture for Investigations and eDiscovery

inSync 5.5 collects and preserves recommended EDRM metadata attributes - creation date, date last saved, file size, file type, file path, data last accessed, file owner information and MD5 hash codes.

By enriching inSync’s existing metadata attributes, enterprises can better determine the origin, context, authenticity and distribution of electronic data across the organization and endpoints for internal investigations, compliance and legal admissibility purposes.

Delegated Admin Roles and Granular Admin Rights

To help customers manage large inSync deployments and adhere to the many regional user data privacy standards, inSync 5.5 offers three new administrative roles of “Data Protection Officer”, “Help Desk Admin” and “View Only Admin”. Additionally, customers can now define and manage their own administrative roles from a set of granular administrative rights to suit their privacy policies.

SD (Secure Digital) card backups

IT can now mandate SD card backups on Android based smartphones and tablets to protect against any loss or breach of endpoints.

Outlook email backups using MAPI (Optimized for efficiency)

inSync 5.5 adds the option to exclude Outlook data files (.PST and .OST) for email backups that utilize the MAPI interface thereby giving IT admins more options to save on bandwidth and storage usage.

File Exclusion

IT can exclude files from syncing across users and devices.  

inSync administrators can now exclude certain files from being synchronized across all users' devices. This lets you control the sync process, such that only the required files are available across all devices.

Quick Start Guide Customization

Administrators can provide a link to a custom Quick Start Guide for inSync Share end-users in their organization catering to their specific needs.

Auto-purge of inSync Share User-Deleted Content

inSync 5.5 share now delivers the ability to auto-purge user deleted content with controls to set the frequency of deletion to efficiently manage storage.

Downloading Audit Trails

inSync 5.5 now gives the option to download user audit trails (CSV or HTML format) to enable customers to import them into their own custom analytics tools for reporting, audit, and compliance purposes.

Active Directory (AD) Mapping
  • Enhanced AD mapping creation user interface
    • Capability to filter users based on combination of Organizational Unit (OU) and AD group.
    • Capability to import users from primary groups.
  • Capability to manually synchronize the inSync user information
    Now, you can synchronize the inSync user information with your AD by manually triggering the sync process. This helps you keep the user information in inSync up-to-date with the latest information available in AD. For more information, see Synchronize inSync user details with your Active Directory.
  • Capability to activate users from nested AD groups.
Integrated Mass Deployment (IMD) Enhancements
  • Enhanced inSync Client activation process on the Windows operating system.
    inSync Client activation is now automatically triggered for all logged on users, as soon as the inSync Client is installed on the laptop. For more information, see ACTIVATION_CHECK parameter in Parameter details.
  • Enhanced replace device behavior
    If the same host name already exists (the same host name was already activated for your username in inSync at an earlier point in time), inSync replaces the old device with the new device automatically.
  • Improved IMD activation status reporting
    We have improved the IMD activation status reporting by logging the errors in the Windows Event log. This provides you the capability to view and troubleshoot the errors occurred during IMD of inSync Client.
  • Capability to activate only single user per device, for devices running on the Windows operating system.
  • Option to remove the inSync configuration during inSync Client uninstallation process. For more information, see CLEAR_CLIENT_CONFIGURATION parameter in Parameter details.
New icon for inSync Client inSync Client now has a new icon:
Improved visual experience for inSync Client on HiDPI displays inSync Client now runs on HiDPI (high density) displays. inSync Client user interface is now visually appealing under various scaling factors.
Enhanced data privacy and data integrity using inSync Client inSync Client now supports TLS version 1.2 for enhanced data privacy and data integrity. This provides you with enhanced security for your data by preventing eavesdropping, tampering, or forgery.
New icon for shared folder and workspace

To distinguish between a shared folder and an unshared folder, a new icon is available for the shared folder and workspace. Following are the icons:
