Configure folders for backup

Overview

The folders from where inSync backs up data are called backup folders.

  • Your inSync administrator can define the backup folders for you. You cannot exclude these folders from inSync backups or change the configuration settings of the backup folders.
  • Your inSync administrator can allow you to configure folders for backup. You can also change the configuration settings of the backup folders.

Add folders for backup

To add folders for backup

  1. Start inSync.
  2. On the Summary page, click the Add Folder button. The Select Folder To Backup window appears.

  3. Under Quick Configuration or My Computer, click the folder that you want to back up and then click Next. The Select Items to Backup in Selected Folder window appears.

  4. Select the files or folders that you want to back up. When you select a folder for backup, all files and folders, including the hidden files and folders, are backed up.
  5. Click Add.

Configure backup settings of the selected folder

By default, all files from a selected folder are backed up. However, you can include or exclude some files or file types from backup.

To configure backup settings

  1. Start inSync.
  2. On the Summary page, click Configure Settings.jpg for the backup folder that you want to configure. The Configure Backup Settings window appears.
  3. If you do not want to include all files for backup, for Do you want to include all files in this folder? option, click No.

  4. If you want to include common file types, select the appropriate check box.
  5. If you want to add or exclude more file types, click Advanced Settings. The Advanced Settings window appears.

  6. Provide the appropriate information for each field.
    Field Action
    Included extensions Type the file types that you want to back up. Ensure that you separate consecutive entries using a semicolon (;) and there is no white space between two entries.
    Excluded extensions Type the file types that you want to exclude from backup. Ensure that you separate consecutive entries using a semicolon (;) and there is no white space between two entries.
    Excluded paths Type the path to the files and folders that you want to exclude from backups.
  7. Click Ok.
  8. Click Save.
