Installing inSync client

Overview

This topic explains how you can install inSync client on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It also explains how you can upgrade inSync client to 5.3.

Downloading the inSync client Installer

You can download the inSync client on your computer as follows:

Method Description
Activation email from your administrator

To use inSync client, you must have an inSync account. This account is created by your inSync administrator. When the inSync administrator creates your account, you will receive an email with the account details. This email is called the inSync account activation email and contains the following information:

  • Link to download the inSync client installer.
  • URL to access the inSync server.
  • Email address and password to activate inSync client and access inSync Web.

It is recommended that you store this email for later use.

Administrator shares inSync client share folder link Your administrator can create a share folder and keep the inSync client in that share folder. The administrator can then share the link of the shared folder with you. You can access the share folder and copy the inSync client on your computer.

Installing inSync client on Windows

Double-click to start the installer and follow the Installation Wizard to complete the specified tasks:

  1. Accept the end user license agreement.
  2. Select the folder to which you want to install the inSync client. 
  3. Select the shortcuts such as Desktop and Quick Launch Bar to access the inSync client.

After the installation is complete, you must activate the inSync client. For more information on activating the inSync client, see Activating inSync Client.

Installing inSync client on Mac

Double-click to mount the .dmg file. Double-click the installer inside the mounted volume and follow the Installation Wizard to complete the specified tasks:

  1. Accept the end user license agreement.
  2. Select the disk to which you want to install the inSync client.

After the installation is complete, you must activate the inSync client. For more information on activating the inSync client, see Activating inSync Client.

Installing inSync client on Linux

To install the inSync client on Linux

  1. On the terminal, type cd <directory>. In the command, <directory> is the path to the folder where you have downloaded the inSync Client installer.
  2. Install inSync client as follows:
    • On Ubuntu, type:
      sudo dpkg –i <package name>
    • On CentOS or RHEL, type:
      su
      rpm –ivh <package name>

    In the commands, <package name> represents the file name along with the file extension of the installation package.

  3. (Only for Ubuntu) Install the libgnome2-0 library and restart the computer. Use the following command to install the library:
    sudo apt-get install libgnome2-0

After the installation is complete, you must activate the inSync client. For more information on activating the inSync client, see Activating inSync Client.

Upgrading inSync client

You can upgrade as follows:

Operating System Upgrade Instruction
Windows Install the new version over your existing installation. For installation instructions, see Installing inSync Client on Windows.
Mac Install the new version over your existing installation. For installation instructions, see Installing inSync Client on Mac.
Linux
  1. Uninstall your existing installation of inSync client. For uninstallation instructions, see Uninstalling inSync Client
  2. Install inSync client 5.3. For installation instructions, see Installing inSync Client on Linux.
