Selecting Files and Folders for Backup

Overview

Explains what the feature is or what its benefits are to the user or customer.

Configuring quick folders

The Quick Folders list contains commonly used folders such as Desktop, Favorites, My Documents, My Music, and My Pictures. You can configure these folders for backup. 

 

To configure quick folders:

  1. On the Summary window, click Preferences.
  2. Click Add Folder. The Druva inSync window appears.
  3. Click Configure Quick Folders.
  4. In the Quick Configuration list, select the folders that you want to back up.

  1. Click Add. The selected folders are displayed under the Folders tab on the Preferences window.
  2. Click Save.

The quick folders are backed up by inSync.

Configuring custom folders

You can configure folders other than the quick folders for backup. 

 

To configure custom folders: 

  1. On the Summary window, click Preferences
  2. Click Add Folder. The Druva inSync window appears.
  3. Select Configure Custom Folders.
  4. Under the Summary tab, enter the following details:

  • Folder path: Type or select the path to the folder that you want to back up.
  • Name: Type a name for your folder.
  • Optimize for large number of files: Select this check box if your folder is large. 
  • (Optional) Configure specific files for backup. 
  • (Optional) Exclude files or paths from backup. 
  1. Click Add. The selected folder is displayed under the Folders tab on the Preferences window.
  2. Click Save.

Including and excluding files for backup

You can include specific files within backup folders for backup. Similarly, you can choose to exclude files from the backup folders from backup.

 

To inlcude and exclude files for backup:

  1. Configure custom folders.

In the folders list, select a folder, and click View / Edit.

  1. Under Include Files, select the files that you want to include for backup.

  • To include all files, select All Files.
  • To include files of a particular type, select the check box that matches the file type that you want to back up. Make sure that the All Files check box is not selected.
  • To backup files that are not listed, type the file type in the file list. You can also type file names in this text box.
  1. Under Exclude Files, select the files that you want to exclude from backup.

  • To exclude all files, select All Files.
  • To include files of a particular type, select the check box that matches the file type that you want to exclude. Make sure that the All Files check box is not selected.
  • To exclude files that are not listed, type the file type in the file list. You can also type file names in this text box.
  1. Click Done and then Save.

Excluding folder paths

You can configure an entire drive for backup. However, you might want to exclude some folders or files out of such drives from backup. To exclude such folders, you must configure the folders paths to be excluded from backup. 

 

To exclude folder paths:

  1. Configure custom folders.

In the folders list, select a folder, and click View / Edit.

  1. In the Druva inSync window, choose the Exclude Paths tab, and enter the path in the Partial Path box.

  1. Click Add. The file or folder is displayed in the Exclude Paths list.
  2. (Optional) To modify an existing path, select the path from the Exclude Paths list, modify it in the Partial Path box, and click Update
  3. (Optional) To remove a path, select the path from the Exclude Paths list and click Remove
  4. Click Done and then Save
