Include email clients for backup

Overview

You can configure email clients for backup. The following table lists the email clients that inSync supports.

About Outlook backup

If you are backing up emails from Outlook 2013, 2010, or 2007, inSync provides two options for backup: Outlook 2013, 2010, 2007 - Optimized for performance and Outlook 2013, 2010, 2007 - Optimized for efficiency. The following table lists the difference between these two backup options.

Data deduplication More efficient, app-aware data de-duplication. Saves only a single copy of duplicate emails and attachments across users. File-level data de-duplication. The inSync client backs up updates to the PST files.
Backup speed Faster backups. The inSync client uses outlook's MAPI interface to identify messages that are added, updated, or deleted, and selectively backs up that data. The inSync client requires more time to analyze and identify changes to the PST.
Non-attached PST By default, the inSync client backs up only the attached PST files. However, if your inSync administrator selected Include PST files from all drives, inSync will locate all unattached PST files in the laptop and back them up. The inSync client backs up all attached PST files. It also backs up all unattached PST files that are there in the folders containing the attached PST files.
Restore Faster restore. Instead of the entire PST, the inSync client restores specific folders, such as Inbox, Sent Items.

The inSync client requires more time for restoring data.

The inSync client can restore only the entire PST.

Restore requirement Requires inSync and Outlook to restore emails. No specific requirement.
Note: 
  • Druva recommends that you do not use Outlook 2013, 2010, 2007 - Optimized for efficiency if Outlook is using IMAP.
  • If you upgrade from Outlook 32-bit to 64-bit, restart the  Druva inSync Client Service .

Include an email client for backup

To include an email client

  1. Start the inSync client.
  2. On the Summary page, click Add folder. The Select Folder To Backup window appears.

  3. Click Email, and then click Next. The Select Email Client To Backup window appears.

  4. Click the email client that you want to backup, and then click Add.

Exclude an email client from backup

Your inSync administrator can include an email client for you. You cannot exclude this emaik client from the inSync client backups. You can exclude an email client that you have configured for backup.

To exclude an email client from backup

  1. Start the inSync client.
  2. On the Summary page, click Configure Settings.jpg for the email client that you want to remove from the backup. The Edit Backup Folder window appears.

  3. Click Delete Backup Folder. A message window appears.Delete Email Client from Backup.png
  4.  Click Yes. The email client is removed from the Backup Folders list of your inSync client.
