Update backup interval and system resources

Update backup interval

To update the backup interval

  1. Start the inSync client.
  2. On the navigation pane, click Preferences.
  3. Under the Backup tab, in the Schedule area, move the Backup interval slider to set the frequency of the scheduled backups.
By default, the backup interval is set for 8 hours.

Update network bandwidth

During backups or syncs, data is transferred from the devices to the inSync storage. These data transfers consume bandwidth.

Note:
  • inSync client requires a minimum bandwidth of 16 Kbps for backups over WAN. If you set the bandwidth as a percentage value, ensure that the maximum WAN bandwidth is not less than 16 Kbps.
  • inSync administrator defines the bandwidth the inSync client can utilize for backups. inSync client uses the lesser of the values configured by you and the administrator for backup.

To update the network bandwidth utilization

  1. Start the inSync client.
  2. On the navigation pane, click Preferences.
  3. Under the Backup tab, in the Performance area, move the Bandwidth usage slider to set the network bandwidth that your laptop can consume while the inSync client is backing up data.

Update the CPU priority

We recommend that you set CPU priority to an optimal value. Assigning a higher CPU priority may affect the performance of other applications on your laptop. Assigning a lower CPU priority might increase the time required for backup.

To update the CPU priority

  1. Start the inSync client.
  2. On the navigation pane, click Preferences.
  3. Under the Backup tab, in the Performance area, move the CPU priority slider to set the priority that you want to assign to the inSync client on your laptop.
Note: The first backup is a full backup and requires the most processing power. All subsequent backups are incremental and require low processing power. We recommend that for a full backup, you select high CPU priority. Thereafter, change the CPU priority to normal.

Automatically pause backups according to the laptop battery percentage level

You can configure the inSync client to automatically pause backups when the battery of your laptop reaches the percentage level that you define.

To configure the inSync client to automatically pause backups according to your laptop battery percentage level

  1. Start the inSync client.
  2. On the navigation pane, click Preferences.
  3. Under the Backup tab, in the Schedule area, select the Pause automatically if battery is below check box and then from the adjacent list, click the battery percentage level which when reached, the inSync client must pause the backup operation.
