Upgrading to version 5.3


This topic explains the procedure to upgrade to version 5.2.2 of inSync Professional.

About upgrading inSync Professional

If you are using inSync server (Professional Edition) 4.5 or later, you can upgrade your inSync server to version 5.2.2. If you are using a version of inSync server earlier than 4.5, contact Druva Support for assistance with the upgrade.

Note: You can upgrade to the Enterprise Edition from the Professional Edition. However, you cannot upgrade from an earlier version of Enterprise edition to a later version of Professional edition.

Before you begin:

  • If you are upgrading from inSync server 4.x, make sure that all users are assigned unique e-mail addresses. Starting with version 5.0, the inSync server uses e-mail addresses as unique identifiers.
  • Make sure your hardware and software satisfy the prerequisites for installing inSync Professional.

Upgrade procedure

The upgrade procedure for the inSync server is identical to the installation procedure.

Operating System Upgrade Instructions
Windows Download the installation packages and run them on the computer where the existing inSync server is  installed. 
Linux Uninstall the older version of inSync server and then install the current version. 

Post upgrade configurations

Because of the new  features introduced in versions starting with 5.2, you must modify your inSync server settings to ensure a smooth working of inSync server.

Modifying the quota assigned to users

The versions earlier than 5.2 defined quota as the space within the storage that was allocated to a user. With every backup or synchronization operation from a user's device, incremental data was added till the quota permitted. Starting with version 5.2, quota is defined as the size of native data that is backed up or synchronized from user devices. Users exceeding this quota can simply delete backup folders or shared folders, thus ensuring that backups do not halt. To align with the new definition, the inSync administrator should reduce quota assigned to each user.

Installing an SSL Certificate for Restores

Starting with inSync 5.2, restore requests are initiated from inSync Web. inSync Web interacts with inSync server over a secure HTTP connection. To facilitate this secure interaction, a self-signed certificate is used on inSync server. However, if a self-signed certificate is not used, inSync users see an untrusted certificate message on their Web browser when they initiate a restore. To avoid this, inSync administrators should install an SSL certificate signed by a third-party Certificate Authority. Alternatively, you can educate your end-users about the untrusted certificate message.

Backing up system and application settings

The System, App Settings feature, introduced in version 5.2, enables inSync server for backing up your system settings. To enable this feature, you must modify your profiles.
