Managing user devices

Overview

This topic explains how to view, enable, disable, and delete devices.

Viewing list of devices

Viewing the list of all devices

To view list of devices linked to inSync

  • On the menu bar, click Manage > Devices.

The Manage Devices page is displayed. It contains the list of all devices.

Viewing devices of a user

To view the devices of a user

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Users.
  2. Click the name of the user whose devices you want to view. The user details page is displayed.
  3. Click the Devices tab.

List of all devices of the user is displayed. 

Viewing list of devices by backup status

To view the list of devices by backup status

  1. On the menu bar, click Backup.
  2. Select the appropriate tab based on your requirement:
    • To view the list of all devices, click the All Devices tab.
    • To view the list of devices from which the last backup was successful, click the Backed Up Successfully tab.
    • To view the list of devices from which the last backup failed, click the Backup Failed tab.
    • To view the list of devices from which few files were not backed up during the last backup, click the Backed Up With Errors tab.
    • To view the list of devices from which data has not been backed up for few days, click the Inactive tab.
    • To view the list of devices from which data has never been backed up, click the Never Backed Up tab.
Note: You can configure the number of days for which, if a device is not backed up, it is tagged as inactive.

Viewing device details

To view the details of a device

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Devices.
  2. Click the device whose details you want to view.

The details of the device are displayed. For information on the fields on this page, see Device Details page.

Configure the days for tagging a device as inactive

Note: This functionality is controlled through profiles. Changing a profile will impact all users associated with the profile.

You can configure the number of days for which, if a device is not backed up, it is tagged as inactive. As an administrator, you should investigate the reason for a device being inactive and ensure that it is backed up as soon as possible.

To configure the days for tagging a device as inactive

  1. On the menu bar, select Manage > Profiles.
  2. Click the profile you want to modify.
  3. Click the Backup Policies tab.
  4. Under Notifications and Storage, click Edit. The edit window appears.

  5. In the Mark device inactive if not backed up for box, modify the number of days as required.
  6. Click Save.

Enabling, disabling, and deleting a device

Disabling a device

Disabling a device stops backup of data from that device. Data that is already backed up on the inSync server is retained.

To disable a device

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the device you want to disable.
  3. Click Disable.

Enabling a device

Enabling a device resumes backup of data from the device to inSync server.

To enable a device

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the devices that you want to enable.
  3. Click Enable.

Deleting a device

Deleting a device removes it from the device list. Deleting a device deletes all data backed up from that device. Deleting a device also stops data backup from that device. 

To delete devices

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the devices that you want to delete.
  3. Click Delete.
