Managing storages added to inSync

Overview

This topic explains how to view, modify, and delete storages. It also explains how to manage the data volumes on a storage.

Viewing storages and storage details

Viewing the list of storages

To view the list of storages added to inSync

  • On the menu bar, click Manage > Storages.

The Manage Storages page is displayed. It contains the list of all storages created for inSync.

Viewing details of a storage

To view the details of a storage

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storages.
  2. Click the storage for which you want to view details.

The storage details for that storage is displayed. For more information on the fields displayed on the page, see Storage Details Page.

Managing data volumes on a storage

Adding a data volume

Before you begin: Create the data folder on the storage media that will be used as the data volume. If inSync server is installed on a Linux computer, the user 'insyncserver' must have group and owner permissions on the data folder of the data volume.

 

To add a data volume

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storages.
  2. Click the storage to which you want to add a data volume.
  3. Click the Storage Information tab.
  4. Under General Storage Information, click Add Data Volume. The Edit Storage window appears.

  5. In the Data folder box, select the path to the data volume.
  6. In the Size box, enter the size of the data volume (expressed in GB or TB).
  7. Click Add Data Volume.

To modify the size of a data volume

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storages.
  2. Click the storage which contains the data volume you want to modify.
  3. Click the Storage Information tab.
  4. Under General Storage Information, click Edit. The Edit Storage Summary window appears.

  5. Modify the size of the data volume as required.
  6. Click Save.

Deleting a data volume

You cannot delete individual data volumes. To delete a data volume, you must delete the storage. For instructions, see Deleting a storage.

Changing the name of a storage

To change the name of a storage

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage.
  2. Click the storage whose name you want to change.
  3. Click the Storage Information tab.
  4. Under General Storage Information, click Edit. The Edit Storage window appears.

  5. In the Storage Name field, enter the new name of the storage.
  6. Click Save.

Changing the storage consumption alert threshold

To change the threshold for low disk space availability

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage.
  2. Click the storage whose name you want to change.
  3. Click the Storage Information tab.
  4. Under General Storage Information, click Edit. The Edit Storage window appears.

  5. In the Storage consumption alert threshold field, enter the new name of the storage.
  6. Click Save.

Changing the number of parallel connections to the storage

To change the maximum number of parallel connections to a storage

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage.
  2. Click the storage whose name you want to change.
  3. Click the Storage Information tab.
  4. Under Performance, click Edit. The Edit Storage window appears.

  5. In the Maximum parallel connections field, enter the new name of the storage.
  6. Click Save.

Deleting a storage

Before you begin: Remove all users assigned to the storage. Make sure none of the users are backing up their data on the storage.

To delete a storage

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage.
  2. Select the storage that you want to delete and click Delete.

Managing compaction of a storage

The compaction process analyses the data in the storage and purges redundant or non-relevant data from it, thereby freeing up storage space.

Changing the compaction schedule of a storage

Note: The compaction process is a resource intensive and time consuming process. It should be run daily at a time when there is not much activity on the storage. It is also recommended that once a week, the compaction process is run on the storage for a longer duration.

To modify the compaction schedule of a storage

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage.
  2. Click the storage whose compaction schedule you want to change.
  3. Click the Compaction Schedule tab.
  4. Under Storage Compaction Schedule, click Edit. The Edit Storage Compaction window appears.

  5. Enter the following details:
    • From the Compact daily at drop-down menu, select start time and in the accompanying text box, enter a new duration.
Note: By default, daily compaction runs for 6 hours. 
  • From the Compact weekly on drop-down menu, select a new day for weekly compaction.
  • From the Compact weekly from drop-down menu select start time and in the accompanying text box, enter a new duration.
Note: By default, weekly compaction runs for 48 hours. 
  1. Click Save.

Compacting a storage

Compaction of an inSync storage happens per the compaction schedule defined for the storage. However, you can trigger an out of schedule compaction for a storage.

To compact a storage

  1. On the menu bar, select Manage > Storages.
  2. Select the storage that you want to compact and click Compact Now.

Compaction of the storage starts.
