inSync server triggers an alert to indicate an exception situation or completion of an activity. For example, detection of antivirus activity is an exception, while backup success is a completion of an activity.
Most alerts are displayed for a certain duration, depending on the nature and severity of the alert. Some alerts messages, such as low storage space alert, misconfigured backup folder alert are displayed till the alert is resolved.
Note: Timestamps on the alerts are per the inSync server's time zone.
Types of inSync alerts
inSync can display the following types of alerts.
|Antivirus Activity Detected|| |
Indicates that the inSync storage folders are not excluded from an antivirus scan.
Action required: Make sure that the Data folder, Database folder, and Database log folders are not scanned by any antivirus software.
|Backup Success|| |
Indicates that a backup is successful.
|Checkpoint process is slow|| |
Indicates that the database checkpoint process for performance optimized storages is slower than the rate at which data is backed up. In inSync server might not be able to handle new requests. If the checkpoint process further slows down, the inSync server will stop all ongoing backups or compaction.
Action required: This issue is observed if any sub-optimal hardware is used for storage. Contact email@example.com if the problem persists.
|Compaction Completed||Indicates that compaction of a storage is complete.|
|DLP Autodelete Warning|| |
Indicates that data from the backup and share folders of a device will be deleted after one day.
Action required: Contact the inSync user who owns the device. Ask the user to initiate a backup from the device, else data from the device will be automatically deleted.
|Initiating DLP Autodelete NOW||Indicates that auto-delete of data from a device is about to start.|
|License Expiry|| |
Indicates that inSync license is about to expire.
Action required: Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to renew inSync license.
|Low Database Storage Available|| |
Indicates that data on a storage has exceeded the threshold.Action required: Initiate compaction of the storage. Delete older snapshots of data. Add data volume. Migrate some of the users to a different storage.
|Low Free Space Available|| |
Indicates that the free space available on the disk that contains the database folder or the database log folder is less than the required minimum. The disk that contains the database folder must have 4 GB of free space. The disk that contains database log folder must also have 4 GB free space. If database folder and database log folder are on the same disk, it should have 8 GB free space.
Action required: Remove unnecessary files to free up the required space on the disk.
|Low User Storage Available|| |
Indicates that a user has exhausted 90% of the allocated user quota.
Action required: Increase user quota. Ask user to remove unnecessary files and folders. Use exclude path options to remove unnecessary folders from being backed up.
|Misconfigured Backup Folder|| |
Indicates that a backup folder configured by an administrator does not exist on a user device.
Action required: Contact the inSync user who owns the device and ask the person to create the required folder on the device.
|Restore Check Failed||The inSync server performs a validation before initiating restores. This alert indicates that the validation failed.|
|Restore Status||Indicates the status of a restore activity.|
|Storage Error|| |
Indicates that inSync could not read or write data to a storage.
Action required: View the log files to identify the issue with the storage and resolve it. Contact email@example.com for assistance.
|User Account License|| |
Indicates that number or inSync user or inSync guest user has exceeded 80% of the allotted licenses. This alert is available only if you have inSync Share license.
Action required: Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to purchase additional user licenses.
|User Backup Inactivity|| |
Indicates that a user has not backed up data from his device for a considerable period.
Action required: Contact the user and ask him to initiate a backup from his device. Alternatively, trigger a backup of the user device from the inSync Admin Console.
Viewing active alerts
You can view the list of alerts triggered by inSync.
To view active alerts
- On the menu bar, click Reporting > Alerts.
The list of all alerts is displayed under the Active Alerts tab. Use the filters to view a specific type of alert.
Modifying the subscriber list for an alert
inSync sends alert notifications only to its subscribers. You can configure inSync to send specific alert notification to specific administrators and users.
To modify the subscribers for an alert
- On the menu bar, click Reporting > Alerts.
- Under the Alert Subscriptions tab, select the alert for which you want to modify the subscribers and then click Edit. The Edit Alert Notifications window appears.
- In the Admins to be notified field, select the administrators who should receive the alerts.
- If you want the affected user to be notified, select Notify user.
- Click Save.
