Managing storage nodes added to inSync

Overview

This topic explains how to view, modify, or delete storage nodes created for inSync. It also describes the procedure of adding or modifying the IP addresses assigning to a storage node.

Viewing all storage nodes

To view the list of all storage nodes:

  • On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.

The Manage Storage Nodes page is displayed. It contains the list of storage nodes created for inSync. 

Viewing details of a storage node

To view the details of a storage node:

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes
  2. Click the storage node whose details you want to view.

The storage node details is displayed. For information on the fields displayed on the page, see Storage Node Details page

Changing the name of a storage node

To change the name of the storage node:

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node whose name you want to modify.
  3. Under General Information, click Edit. The Edit Storage Node window appears.

  4. Enter a new name for the storage node.
  5. Click Save.

Changing the ports used by a storage node

Before you begin: Make sure you open the new port numbers on the storage node server. A storage node needs the following ports:

  • Backup and sync port: This port is used to send backup data to the storage node.
  • User web access port: This port is used to access inSync Web.

 

To change the ports used by a storage node

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node whose ports you want to change.
  3. Under General Information, click Edit. The Edit Storage Node window appears.
  4. Enter the new port numbers that you want to assign to the storage node.
  5. Click Save.

Managing the IP address of a storage node

You can configure a list of IP addresses or fully qualified domain names (FQDN) that can be used to communicate with a storage node.

Adding an IP address or FQDN

When creating a storage node, you assign an IP address to it. If you want you can assign additional IP addresses.

To add an IP address or FQDN

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node to which you want to add an IP address.
  3. Under IP Address or FQDN Configuration, click Edit. The Edit Storage Node window appears.
  4. Click +Add IP Address or FQDN. A new row appears.
  5. Enter the new IP address and select its network type. If you want inSync to decide the network type, select AUTO. In such cases, inSync treats any connection with 20 ms or more TTL as WAN.
  6. Click Save.

Selecting the primary IP address

You can assign multiple IP addresses to a storage node. However, only one of them will be the primary IP address. 

To assign the primary IP address

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node to which you want to add an IP address.
  3. Under IP Address or FQDN Configuration, click Edit. The Edit Storage Node window appears.
  4. Select the IP address that you want to act as the primary.

  5. Click Save.

Changing an IP address or FQDN

To change an IP address or FQDN

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node whose IP address you want to change.
  3. Under IP Address or FQDN Configuration, click Edit. The Edit Storage Node window appears.
  4. Change the desired IP address and select the approrpiate network type.
  5. Click Save.

​Deleting an IP address or FQDN

If a storage node has multiple IP addresses, you can delete the non-primary IP addresses.

To delete a non-primary IP address or FQDN

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node whose IP address you want to delete.
  3. Under IP Address or FQDN Configuration, click Edit. The Edit Storage Node window appears.
  4. Click <<delete icon>> next to the IP address you want to delete.
  5. Click Save.

Loading an SSL certificate on the storage node

Before you begin: Obtain an SSL certificate from a Certificate Authority and export it without the private key to a folder on your computer. 

 

To load a certificate

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Nodes.
  2. Click the storage node where you want to load the SSL certificate.
  3. Under General Information, click Load Certificate & Key.
  4. Browse and select the certificate you want to load.

The certificate and public key is loaded to the storage node.

Deleting a storage node

Prerequisite: Delete all storages attached to the storage node.

To delete a storage node

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage > Storage Node.
  2. Select the storage node that you want to delete and click Delete.

The storage node is deleted.
