Installing storage node on Linux

Overview

This topic explains the procedure of installing inSync storage node on Linux. 

Before you begin

Before you install inSync storage node on Linux, ensure that the following tasks are complete:

  • You must have root priviledges on the computer where you plan to install the inSync storage node.
  • You have downloaded the storage node installation package on the computer where you are installing it. If you are installing the storage node on Ubuntu, make sure you have downloaded the .deb package. If you are installing the storage node on RHEL, make sure you have downloaded the .rpm package.

Installation procedure

Installing inSync storage node on Ubuntu

To install inSync storage node

  • From the directory that contains the .deb package, run the following command:
sudo dpkg -i <package_name>

In the above command, <package_name> represents the file name (along with the extension) of the .deb package.

Installing inSync storage node on RHEL

To install inSync storage node

  • From the directory that contains the .rpm package, run the following command:
rpm -ivh <package_name>

In the above command, <package_name> represents the file name (along with the extension) of the .deb package.

Next steps

You must now link the storage node to the inSync master server. This is a two step process:

  1. Log on to the inSync storage node server and generate the inSync storage node registration key.
  2. Log on to the inSync Admin Console and creating the storage node. While creating the storage node you must provide the IP address of storage node, the registration key, and the ports used by the storage node.
