Prerequisites for installing the master server

Overview

This topic explains the software, hardware, and other prerequisites for installing the inSync master server.

Hardware prerequisites

The hardware required for installing inSync master server are as follows.

Hardware Minimum Requirement
CPU 64-bit, dual core processor
RAM 8 GB
Network card 10/100 Mbps fast ethernet adapter
Disk space 125 MB for installing inSync master server

Software prerequisites

The software required for installing inSync master server are as follows.

Operating System

Any one of the following:

  • Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (64-bit)
  • Windows 2012 Server (64-bit)
  • Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit)
  • RHEL 6.3 (64-bit)
Database

MySQL version 5 or later

Note: Druva recommends MySQL 5.5.24 for inSync master server installed on Windows or Ubuntu, and MySQL 5.5 for installation on RHEL.
Web browser

Any of the following:

  • Internet Explorer 8 or later
  • Firefox 19 or later
  • Safari 5.1 or later
  • Chrome 25 or later

Database prerequisite

inSync master server requires a MySQL database. The database can be installed on the server where you are installing inSync master server, or any other networked server. 

Note: Druva recommends MySQL 5.5.24 for inSync master server installed on Windows or Ubuntu, and MySQL 5.5 for installation on RHEL.

You must have the following information about the MySQL database:

  • The IP address of the server where the MySQL database is installed.
  • The port number required to connect to the MySQL database.
  • The username and password required to access the MySQL database. The user must have ALL privilege assigned.

Other prerequisites

Other requirements for installing inSync master server are as follows.

Requirement Description
Open port numbers

By default, inSync master server uses the following two ports:

  • Web UI port: This port is required to access the inSync Admin Console and for Web restores. By default, port 443 is used for this purpose. 
  • Backup port: This port is required for backups and for communication with the storage nodes. By default port 6061 is used for this purpose.

Either keep the default ports open or use two open ports exclusively for inSync.

IP address or FQDN If you want to allow inSync users to backup and restore data over WAN, decide on the WAN IP address or FQDN that they can use.
