Generic FAQ's

What is the inSync licensing model for Slack?

Druva for Slack is licensed on a user basis and requires the customer to have inSync Elite at the minimum. Customers with inSync Enterprise will have to upgrade to Elite before being licensed for Slack.

What is the list price per user and can we discount it?

List price is $3/user/month. Standard sales discounts can be applied to users and channel partners. Please note that any discount beyond 50% will have to be approved by the CFO.

Which competitor is offering a similar solution for Slack?

At present Onna and Logikcull are the two biggest competitors. Both solve this problem from an eDiscovery perspective and in reality, are a direct competition to the likes of Exterro, Recommind, etc. 

We are the only solution in the market that enable a customer to collect data from one or more Slack organizations continuously and execute a 2-step Legal Hold workflow that can provide access to data from Slack (for a custodian) and also other SaaS applications protected by Druva like O365 and GSuite.

Which Slack license versions does inSync support?

inSync leverages the eDiscovery API that is available with Slack’s Enterprise Grid license only. This enables inSync admins to collect Slack data for one or more orgs and make the data available for e-discovery without causing end-user disruption.

How many Orgs can I add and integrate within an inSync Slack license?

Currently, there is no limit to the number of Orgs that can be added and integrated within an inSync license.  Slack will be licensed per user. Users in a Slack Org used for external collaboration will be counted as a licensed user even if they do not belong to your company.

Does a Slack user have to be an inSync user as well?

Slack is enabled just like any other Cloud App that Druva supports. For an administrator to place the Slack users within their Org on Legal Hold, it is a prerequisite to have the Slack users added to inSync.

How long can inSync retain the Slack user data?

By default, Slack user data has unlimited retention for now.

Does Druva backup Slack files attachment in the native format?

Yes. Druva backs up and stores all the files in the native format and does not convert it into any other format when we retrieve it from Slack.

How many Orgs can I add and integrate within an inSync Slack license?

Currently, there is no limit to the number of Orgs that can be added and integrated within an inSync license.  Slack will be licensed per user.

How do I configure Druva inSync to protect Slack data?

What are the required roles and permissions for inSync to access Slack data?

Druva inSync requires the following permissions to access and protect Slack data:

  • Content and info about you

    • View information about your identity

  • Administer Slack for your organization

    • View all of your organization’s messages (including all private channels and direct messages), as well as your organization’s files

inSync admins require the following roles for access to Slack:

  • inSync Cloud Administrator

  • Legal administrator

Backup FAQ's

Does inSync backup and protect the user's Direct messages?

Yes. Direct and files or attachments shared within the Direct messages are also backed up and protected.

Does inSync backup and protect all the Slack channels - Private, Public, and Shared?

Yes. Slack backups will protect Private, Public and Shared channels.

Does inSync backup and protect archived Slack channels?

Yes.  Archived channels are backed up during Slack Org backup.

Does inSync backup and protect data in externally Shared channels?

Yes.  In the case of the externally Shared channel, the Slack data (messages and files) are backed up for both the Slack Orgs sharing the channel.

What is the default backup frequency that an admin can set for Slack data?

By default, the backup frequency is Once a day. You can set it manually to 8 hours as the least frequency.

Can I control the backup start time of my Slack org?

No. Backup start time cannot be controlled.

Governance and Legal Hold FAQ's

Does inSync's Legal Hold solution backup messages for a custodian?

Yes. For a custodian, inSync backs up all Direct and multi-person messages within all the public and private channels of which the custodian is a member.

Does inSync preserve different versions of custodian's messages within Slack?

When a user edits a message after it is shared, a new version of the message is created. Slack preserves the old version of the message and provides access to the old and new versions through the discovery APIs. Hence, Druva inSync uses these discovery APIs to backup different versions of messages.

Does Druva inSync support integration with an existing eDiscovery solution for forensic analysis?

Yes. Druva inSync supports integration with eDiscovery tools such as Exterro. which can be used for forensic analysis. Any eDiscovery tool that supports WebDav interface can be used for integration.

Can we use Federated Search to do metadata search for Slack data collected in a backup or for a custodian on Legal Hold?

Federated Search is not supported at this time. We will review the need for this on a periodic basis and update the field if we decide to enable Federated Search.
