How to configure inSync with Office 365?

Configure inSync to integrate with Office 365

Overview

As a cloud administrator, you can configure inSync to integrate with Office 365. Once configured, you can collect OneDrive data, Exchange Online data such as mailbox (for individual user and shared), contacts, calendar, and  SharePoint Online site collection data.

Prerequisites for configuring Office 365 data  

In addition to the prerequisites for backing up cloud apps data, ensure that you have the following:

  • You have an Office 365 Global administrator account with a valid Office 365 license.
  • You have configured inSync to integrate with Office 365. For more information, see How to configure inSync with Office 365?

Procedure

To configure inSync app to integrate with Office 365,

  1. On the inSync Management Console menu bar, click Data Sources > Cloud App. The Manage Cloud App page appears.
  2. Select Office 365 cloud app, and then click Configure.
  3. On the log on page that appears, enter the tenant administrator's  username and password for Office 365, and then click Sign in.
  4. On the next page that appears, click Accept to grant inSync app the required permissions to access Office 365 data. inSync gets connected to Office 365 data of all users in your organization. 
  5. (Optional)After the configuration is complete, you are redirected back to inSync and you can see the Verify Configuration dialog. In the dialog, you can select a user from the organization to verify the inSync integration with Office 365. 
     
    Note: Provide an email address in the Select a user field. User Principal Name (UPN) is not supported at the moment.

After the cloud apps are configured, you can view the cloud apps configuration details at the Manage Cloud App Accounts page. For more information, see Manage Cloud App Accounts page.

Note

  • Snapshots of OneDrive and Exchange Online devices are displayed in UTC time zone for inSync administrators. However, inSync users will be able to see the snapshots of their OneDrive devices in the time zone that they configured.
  • Exchange Online devices are not displayed to inSync users. 

Enable alerts for cloud apps status

Overview

Once you have integrated cloud apps with inSync, you can choose to receive alerts whenever the cloud apps status changes. For example, Not Connected.

Procedure

To enable the alerts for cloud apps status,

  1. On the inSync Management Console menu bar, click alerts.png. The list of all alerts appear under the Active Alerts tab.
  2. Click the Alert Subscriptions tab.  A list of available alerts is displayed.
  3. Select the Cloud Apps Status alert, and then click Edit. The Edit Alert Notifications window appears.
  4. In the Admins to be notified field, select the administrators who must receive the alerts. By default, the server administrators are notified about the alerts for cloud apps status.
  5. If any user action is required, select the Notify user check box.
  6. Click Save.

Reconfigure Office 365

Overview

Reconfiguring Office 365 updates the required permissions for inSync app in Microsoft Azure. Reconfiguring Office 365 is usually required when you want to discover a new Cloud App that is added to inSync.

Note: When you reconfigure Office 365, inSync stops all the ongoing cloud app backups.

Procedure

To reconfigure inSync with Office 365,

  1. In the inSync Management Console menu bar, click Data Sources > Cloud Apps. The Manage Cloud Apps page appears.
  2. From the Cloud App List, select the cloud app that you want to reconfigure.
  3. Click Configure.
  4. On the confirmation message that appears, click Yes to proceed with the configuration.
  5. On the log on page that appears, enter the tenant administrator's  user name and password for Office 365, and then click Sign in
  6. On the next page that appears, click Accept to grant inSync app the required permissions to access Office 365 data.

inSync gets connected to Office 365 data of all users in your organization. 

After the cloud apps are configured, you can view the cloud apps configuration details at the Manage Cloud App Accounts page. For more information, see Manage Cloud App Accounts page.

Note: Snapshots of OneDrive devices is displayed in UTC time zone for administrators. However, end users will be able to see the snapshots of their OneDrive devices in the time zone that they configured.​
