Activate inSync on user devices

inSync Cloud Editions: File:/tick.png Elite Plus File:/tick.png Elite File:/cross.png Enterprise File:/tick.png Business

Overview

You might want to activate inSync in the following scenarios:

  • Your organization's policy requires you to provide devices to new hires after installing and activating required software.
  • You are replacing a lost device.
Note: You can activate inSync on Windows or Mac devices. Users with Linux devices must activate inSync on their own.

Step 1 of 2: Download the authentication key for users

To download the authentication key for users

  1. On the inSync Master Management Console menu bar, click Users.
  2. Click the users for whom you want to activate inSync, and then click More > Download Authkeys. The Download Authkey window appears.

    Download Authkey.png

  3. Select the user device on which you want to activate inSync.
    • If you want to replace a device, click Replace Device.
    • If you want to add a new device, click Add new device.

If the user did not configure a device, No devices attached appears beside the user's name.

Note: If you are reactivating inSync client on a device and assigning the device to a different user, the user settings of the inSync client of the previous user is preserved.

  4. Click Download Authkeys.
A file named inSyncUserKeys.zip is downloaded to your laptop. This file contains the authentication keys for the selected user. If you selected multiple users, the zip file contains multiple key files. Each key file is named as <user name>.idk.
Note: The authentication key is only for one-time use. You cannot reuse the key regardless of whether inSync Client was activated or not. Make sure you have downloaded a fresh authentication key every time you attempt to activate inSync Client on a user device. Even for multiple users, use this procedure to generate multiple authentication keys in the zip folder.

Step 2: Activate inSync on the user devices

Before you begin

Before you activate inSync on the user devices, ensure that you have the most recent auth key.

    C:\Program Files\Druva\inSync>inSyncAgent.exe 'path\to\the\userkey.idk'
Note: For Windows 64-bit, use Program Files (x86) instead of Program Files.
