inSync Client 5.9.5 for inSync Cloud

With a strong focus on reporting, troubleshooting, and ease of deployment, the following features are available with the inSync Client 5.9.5 for inSync Cloud released on May 13, 2017.

inSync Cloud updates 

Defensible Deletion

Added as an offering with inSync Governance, the Defensible Deletion capability enables inSync administrators to,

  • Delete emails and files that are malicious, sensitive, inappropriately available to some employees, or have little or no business value.
  • Provides reduced compliance risks, adherence to organizational security policies and reduced cost of data management.

Support for Microsoft Office 2016 System Settings

Simplify device refresh with backup and restore of expanded system settings for Microsoft Office 2016 through inSync Client.

Exterro Connector for inSync

Exterro customers can now use Exterro's inSync connector to place custodians on hold and ingest data for eDiscovery processing and review without manually creating legal holds within inSync. To learn more, download this white paper.

Enhanced Troubleshooting for Cloud Apps

After configuring a Cloud App for backup in the inSync Management Console, inSync administrators can now use the new Verify Configuration option to check whether the Cloud App is configured correctly. Configuration verification involves the following,

  • App authentication
  • User existence
  • User’s endpoints existence
  • User authentication

inSync Client Updates for Administrators

Device Name Auto-update

inSync has simplified device management by making it easier to manage the device name in inSync Management Console. inSync will periodically check the hostname of the endpoint device being backed up and will automatically update the changes in the inSync Management Console.

Log Collection Automation

inSync has simplified the workflow to troubleshoot user reported issues. Now, inSync administrators can remotely enable the debug mode for inSync Client to collect all relevant logs, errors, and data points with an option to forward the collected logs to Druva Support.

inSync Client Updates for End Users 

Capability to Protect Data on Old Device during Remote Device Replace

Now, for an inSync administrator-triggered remote replace and refresh of an endpoint device, an inSync Client user can add a new device while independently maintaining the old device. This will ensure the old device stays protected even after the new device is activated.

Restore Status Improvements during Device Replace

inSync Client now provides improved visibility in instances where files are not restored during device replacement operation. inSync Client displays missed file count and list to end users.

Support for Custom Office 2013 and Office 2016 Template Location

inSync extends support to backup Microsoft Office 2013 and Office 2016 user-configured custom template location for each Office Suite Application.

Enhanced messaging for Password Policy

inSync Client users will now see enhanced error messages related to the password policy that is enforced by the inSync administrators. Appropriate error message will appear on the inSync Client UI if passwords are not created as per the guidelines defined in the password policy.

inSync Client Updates for both - inSync Administrators and End Users 

Enhancements to Misconfigured Backup Folder Behavior

inSync now identifies all misconfigured folders in a backup cycle and lists all such folders on inSync Client UI and in the Misconfigured folder alert message that is sent to inSync administrators. To know what is misconfigured backup folder, see inSync Client FAQs.

Support for Amazon WorkSpaces

inSync Administrators and inSync Client users can now leverage inSync’s backup and restore capability for Amazon WorkSpace data.

Deprecated Features 

There is no deprecated feature in inSync 5.9.5.

Fixed Issues 

Issue Description
40663 In case of inSync Client upgrade using the Integrated Mass Deployment process using the HEADLESS parameter, inSync Client icon was still visible in the system tray.

Known issues and workarounds 

Issues Description

When you hover over an excluded folder in inSync Client for Linux OS, a blank tool tip is displayed instead of the message - Folder is excluded from backup.

Workaround: Change the desktop theme and then reopen the inSync Client window.

41683 Files deleted from storage continue to appear in the search results. 


inSync Client installation fails on AWS WorkSpace hosted on Windows 10 OS, if a user tries to install inSync Client by double-clicking the installer (.msi) file.


  1. Open a command prompt as an administrator on the Amazon WorkSpace.
  2. Change the directory to the location where inSync Client installer .msi file is saved.
    cd <absolute directory path to inSync Client installer .msi>
  3. Run the following command:
    msiexec.exe /qn /i <absolute directory path to inSync Client installer .msi> /L*V install.log
41116 inSync Client does not back up system settings on Amazon WorkSpaces.
41614 EUSERNOTFOUND is encountered if inSync fails to communicate with the APIs provided by cloud suites.
